Job Summary: The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance activities. This role supports the CFO by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records and driving process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and financial transparency.
 
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Manage accounts payable/accounts receivable, payroll and financial reporting transactions.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure proper account reconciliations and resolution of accounting discrepancies.
  • Create and implement policies and procedures to identify, resolve, and document accounting issues.
  • Create procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate.
Internal Controls and Compliance
  • Maintain and strengthen internal control systems and accounting policies.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal accounting processes, and federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate external audits and function as the primary liaison with auditors.
  • Support implementation of accounting standards and regulatory changes.
  • Assist with tax compliance and reporting requirements.
Budget and Financial Analysis
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Monitor departmental budgets and identify variances.
  • Perform analysis on financial results, trends, costs and budgets and provides recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Develop financial models and management reports as needed.
Process Improvement
  • Evaluate and improve accounting processes, systems, and workflows.
  • Support internal controls and recommend process improvements.
  • Lead ERP implementations, upgrades, or financial system enhancements.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and increased efficiency.
  • Support organizational growth through scalable accounting practices.
Leadership
  • Participate in operations leadership team meetings and lead dashboard discussions.
  • Mentor junior accountant and provide guidance on best practices.
Other duties

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA Certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience working with external auditors.
  • Experience with ERP systems and advanced accounting software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial modeling tools.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management capabilities.
