Position Summary
The Director of Athletics and Activities provides leadership, coordination, and oversight for all district athletic and student activity programs serving students in grades 9-12. This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality, student-centered programming that promotes participation, leadership, wellness, academic success, and school connectedness.
The Director oversees interscholastic athletics, co-curricular programs, student clubs and organizations, performing arts activities, and related extracurricular opportunities. The position is responsible for staff supervision, budget management, compliance with state and federal regulations, facility coordination, event management, and community engagement.
Working collaboratively with district and school leaders, staff, students, families, and community partners, the Director ensures that athletic and activity programs align with the district''s mission, vision, and core values.
This position may also assume building-level operational responsibilities, including staff supervision and evaluation, student oversight, event management, and other administrative duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Athletics and Activities Leadership
Provide leadership for all middle school and high school athletic and activity programs.
Recruit, hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate coaches, advisors, and activity sponsors.
Promote student participation, leadership development, sportsmanship, and positive school culture.
Ensure compliance with WIAA regulations, district policies, Title IX requirements, and other applicable laws and regulations.
Coordinate athletic and activity schedules, contests, performances, events, transportation, and facility usage.
Oversee student eligibility and participation requirements.
Collaborate with booster organizations, parent groups, and community partners to support district programs.
Leadership and Communication
Serve as a liaison between coaches/advisors, students, families, staff, community organizations, and district leadership.
Collaborate with principals and district administrators to align athletic and activity programs with district goals and priorities.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding program opportunities, expectations, and accomplishments.
Maintain accurate records, reports, budgets, and data for internal planning and external reporting purposes.
Facilities and Operations
Coordinate the use of district facilities for athletics, activities, and community events.
Work collaboratively with facilities, technology, food service, transportation, and custodial departments to ensure successful operations.
Assist with planning, supervision, and management of district events and activities.
Participate in long-range planning related to facility improvements, program growth, athletic strategic planning and operational efficiency.
Budget and Program Management
Develop and manage athletic and activity budgets in a fiscally responsible manner.
Oversee purchasing, inventory, equipment replacement, uniforms, and event staffing.
Evaluate programs and make recommendations for continuous improvement based on participation, outcomes, and stakeholder feedback.
Required Qualifications
Master''s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field preferred.
Wisconsin DPI Administrative License or eligibility to obtain licensure.
Minimum of three to five years of successful experience in educational leadership, athletics administration, activities administration, or a related field preferred.
Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, manage budgets, coordinate complex programs, and build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
