Location
Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209.
Job Summary
The Director of Athletics Communications is responsible for leading the departments athletics communications efforts, including media relations, website management, social media, publications, statistical reporting, branding and public relations. This position serves as the primary communications contact for Albany State University Athletics and works collaboratively with coaches, campus partners and external media to promote the achievements of the department, enhance the visibility of its programs and support the overall mission of Athletics.

Responsibilities
Media Relations & Public Relations
- Serve as the primary media contact for Albany State University Athletics by developing and maintaining positive relationships with local, regional and national media outlets.
- Write, edit and distribute news releases, feature stories, game recaps, student-athlete and coach profiles, and other departmental communications.
- Coordinate media interviews, credential requests and media accommodations for athletics events.
- Promote student-athletes, coaches and staff for conference, regional and national awards and recognition.
- Maintain the official athletics website with timely, accurate and engaging content.
- Manage the departments official social media platforms to promote athletics programs, student-athlete success and departmental initiatives.
- Coordinate the production of digital content, publications, photography and video assets that support the Athletics brand.
- Collaborate with University Marketing and Communications to ensure consistent messaging and visual identity across institutional platforms.
- Coordinate athletics communications operations for home athletic events.
- Coordinate press box operations and media services for designated athletic contests.
- Coordinate the collection, maintenance and reporting of game statistics utilizing NCAA and conference-approved statistical software.
- Submit required statistical reports and nominations to the NCAA, SIAC and other governing organizations.
- Coordinate game-day communications personnel, including statisticians, public address announcers, scoreboard operators, livestream personnel, photographers, social media staff and other communications support roles.
- Recruit, train and supervise student assistants, interns, and work-study students supporting athletics communications.
- Develop procedures that promote consistency, efficiency and excellent customer service within athletics communications operations.
- Manage the athletics communications operating budget in accordance with University policies.
- Support departmental communications and promotional efforts related to ticket sales, fundraising initiatives, community engagement and special events.
- Maintain athletics historical records, archives and information related to Hall of Fame and other departmental recognition programs.
- Work collaboratively with head coaches to promote their programs while maintaining a unified departmental communications strategy.
- Ensure compliance with all NCAA, SIAC, University and University System of Georgia rules, regulations and policies related to assigned responsibilities.
Digital Communications & Brand Management
- Maintain the official athletics website with timely, accurate and engaging content.
- Manage the departments official social media platforms to promote athletics programs, student-athlete success and departmental initiatives.
- Coordinate the production of digital content, publications, photography and video assets that support the Athletics brand.

Game-Day Communications & Statistics

- Recruit, train and supervise student assistants, interns, and work-study students supporting athletics communications.

- Manage the athletics communications operating budget in accordance with University policies.
Departmental Support & Administration
- Support departmental communications and promotional efforts related to ticket sales, fundraising initiatives, community engagement and special events.
- Maintain athletics historical records, archives and information related to Hall of Fame and other departmental recognition programs.
- Work collaboratively with head coaches to promote their programs while maintaining a unified departmental communications strategy.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor¿s degree.
- Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in athletics communications, sports information, media relations or a related field.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required for events.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree.
- Experience working in NCAA intercollegiate athletics.
- Experience managing athletics websites using Sidearm Sports or similar content management systems.
- Experience with NCAA LiveStats, StatCrew or other athletics statistical software.
- Experience managing institutional and athletics social media platforms.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
- Experience with photography, video production and livestream operations.
- Experience supervising interns, graduate assistants, work-study students or student employees.
- Background in an HBCU or resource-conscious athletics environment
Proposed Salary
