    Job Title: Director of Athletics and Community Outreach

    Reports To: Superintendent

    Job Summary:

    The Athletic Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the recreation league and the middle and high school athletic programs, ensuring they align with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association''s policies and procedures. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with school administrators, coaches, and the community to enhance the overall athletic experience for students.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Program Administration:
    • Work under the direction of the Superintendent to oversee the overall athletic program
    • Administer all interscholastic policies and procedures in accordance with the Rules and By-Laws of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
    • Coach Management:
    • Observe coaches to make informed recommendations on job expectations and assignments to the School Principal.
    • Assist the Principal in evaluating and selecting candidates for coaching positions.
    • Facility and Event Management:
    • Recommend facility improvements for district office consideration and referral.
    • Develop and approve all interscholastic game schedules, including contracting game officials.
    • Coordinate with the district office for the use of athletic facilities by external groups.
    • Manage the physical equipment, supervise all interscholastic athletic contests, and ensure proper maintenance of athletic fields, tracks, baseball fields, and gymnasiums.
    • Oversee the operation and organization of press boxes and supervise radio broadcasts and public address systems at games.
    • Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for interscholastic events as needed.
    • Financial Management:
    • Work with the Superintendent and CFO to develop and manage the yearly budget for the athletic program.
    • Discover and implement strategies for financing the athletic program.
    • Submit an annual financial report to the Assistant Superintendent and CFO.
    • Manage gate receipts and handle the financial aspects of athletic events, including the sale of athletic supplies and jackets.
    • Conflict Resolution and Policy Enforcement:
    • Resolve conflicts within the Athletic Department.
    • Maintain records of athletic suspensions and expulsions, ensuring "Due Process" for each athlete.
    • Ensure the scholastic eligibility of all athletes and certify their eligibility on the proper state forms.
    • Public Relations and Community Engagement:
    • Organize and coordinate youth recreation leagues
    • Promote publicity for all interscholastic sports through brochures, press, and radio, and assist the Booster Club with game programs.
    • Liaise between coaches and the Athletic Booster Club, attending all meetings as the school's representative.
    • Plan and supervise athletic awards programs in collaboration with the Booster Club.
    • Health and Safety:
    • Coordinate with medical professionals to provide coverage at all home games and major events.
    • Schedule physical examinations for athletes in accordance with state requirements.
    • Maintain player medical records, insurance forms, and other necessary documentation.
    • Program Evaluation and Improvement:
    • Conduct annual reviews of the Athletic Policy and Staff Handbook.
    • Continuously evaluate the athletic program to identify areas for improvement.
    • Attend relevant Conference, State, and National meetings to represent the school and stay informed on best practices.
    • Other Duties:
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by the superintendent or assistant superintendent in line with Uwharrie Charter Academy Board of Education Policy and North Carolina Administrative Code and Statutes.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor''s degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, or related field (Master''s preferred).
    • Experience in athletic administration or a related field.
    • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Knowledge of state athletic association regulations and school policies.

    Working Conditions:

    • The role requires attendance at all home athletic contests and may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
    • Physical activity may include walking long distances, standing for extended periods, and lifting equipment.
