The Director leads the business intelligence, dashboarding, and decision-support functions of the Data Science and Analytics team at Salt Lake Community College. This position is responsible for advancing DSAs team capacity to deliver trusted, timely, and user-ready data products that support planning, operations, and decision-making across the institution.
The Director of Business Intelligence focuses on the design, delivery, and stewardship of reports, dashboards, recurring data products, and related business intelligence infrastructure. The role ensures that analytics products are useful, accurate, well-documented, secure, and aligned with institutional standards for data governance, privacy, and quality. The incumbent leads the development of procedures, documentation, user support, and training that promote sustainable and effective use of data products and analytics tools across the College.
This position serves as a key liaison between stakeholders and the Data Science and Analytics team, helping gather requirements, clarify business needs, and support the timely delivery of analytics products in collaboration with project and product management functions. The role operates in a dynamic environment and requires strong communication, adaptability, sound judgment, and the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams. The Director works in close partnership with data engineering and architecture, official reporting, and data governance functions to ensure that business intelligence products are aligned with institutional data strategy and operational priorities.

Lead the business intelligence and decision-support functions of the Data Science and Analytics team.
Oversee the design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of user-ready reports, dashboards, scorecards, and recurring analytics products.
Ensure business intelligence products are accurate, validated, reliable, accessible, and aligned with institutional standards for data quality, reproducibility, security, and visual design.
Collaborate with administrators, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to identify reporting and analytics needs and translate those needs into effective data products.
Gather and clarify business and functional requirements for dashboards, reports, and other decision-support tools.
Partner with project and product management functions to support planning, prioritization, and timely delivery of analytics work.
Maintain and improve business intelligence infrastructure, reporting environments, and related processes that support sustainable analytics delivery.
Develop and maintain documentation, standard operating procedures, reporting definitions, and user guidance for business intelligence products and services.
Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing analytics culture through coaching, peer review, and knowledge sharing.
Support agile and project-based work within the Data Science and Analytics team, including backlog refinement, work planning, issue resolution, and cross-functional coordination.
Work closely with data engineering and architecture teams to ensure business intelligence solutions are supported by sound data pipelines, models, and technical design.
Collaborate with official reporting and data governance functions to promote consistency, compliance, definitional clarity, and appropriate use of institutional data.
Help establish and uphold standards for dashboard development, report publication, documentation, testing, and release management.
Manage strategic initiatives, recurring deliverables, and ad hoc requests related to institutional reporting and analytics.
Contribute to continuous improvement of the Colleges analytics capabilities, service model, and business intelligence practices.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

Bachelors degree in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or a closely related field.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible, full-time paid professional experience in business intelligence, reporting, analytics, data visualization, or decision-support work.
Two (2) years of management and supervision experience.

Experience in higher education, government, healthcare, or another complex mission-driven organization.
Experience supporting enterprise reporting environments and business intelligence infrastructure.
Experience working in agile, product-oriented, or project-based analytics teams.
Familiarity with data governance, official reporting, compliance, or institutional data standards.
Experience with Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, or similar enterprise business intelligence platforms.
Demonstrated experience developing dashboards, reports, and data products using business intelligence tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
Demonstrated experience using SQL for querying, analysis, or reporting.
Experience working with relational databases and data management practices.
