Harbor Health also operates two Programs for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly in Mattapan and Brockton and a Woman, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program. We are currently seeking a Director of Business Operations and Strategic Initiatives to join our corporate leadership team.
Role:
The Director of Business Operations provides strategic and operational leadership to improve organizational performance, enhance operational efficiency, and advance key business initiatives across the health centers. Reporting to the President & CEO, this role leads cross-functional initiatives, drives organizational performance improvement efforts, oversees high-priority strategic projects, and provides operational and financial analysis to support executive decision-making. The Director serves as a trusted partner to executive leadership, helping translate strategy into execution while advancing financial sustainability, patient access, and service excellence.
The Director serves as a collaborative leader and problem solver, working closely with clinical, operational, financial, and administrative teams to support the mission of delivering high-quality, equitable care to the communities served.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Operations & Performance
- Leads organization-wide operational improvement initiatives aligned with strategic priorities.
- Monitors key performance indicators related to access, productivity, quality, patient experience, and financial performance
- Develops dashboards, reports, and presentations for executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Partners with executive leadership to advance strategic planning, organizational goal setting, and performance management initiatives.
- Leads change management efforts associated with strategic initiatives, operational improvements, and organizational transformation projects.
Business Operations
- Analyzes operational workflows and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Leads cross-departmental initiatives and drive timely execution of organizational priorities.
- Identifies opportunities to improve revenue cycle performance, patient access, service utilization, and operational sustainability.
- Leads implementation of new programs, services, and operational models to advance organizational objectives.
- Evaluates the operational and financial impact of proposed initiatives and develop recommendations to support organizational decision-making.
- Partners with Finance and operational leaders to identify opportunities for cost savings, revenue enhancement, and long-term organizational sustainability.
Project Management
- Manages high-priority projects from planning through implementation.
- Develops project plans, timelines, and accountability structures.
- Leads workgroups and interdisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives and organizational outcomes.
- Monitors progress and communicate project status to leadership.
- Develops and executes change management and communication plans to support successful project implementation and adoption.
- Identifies project risks, barriers, and dependencies and develop mitigation strategies in collaboration with organizational leaders.
Data Analytics & Reporting
- Utilizes data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Produces operational, financial, and business analyses to support executive decision-making and strategic planning.
- Collaborates with finance, quality, population health, and operations leaders to monitor organizational performance.
- Supports regulatory, grant, and board reporting requirements.
- Develops business cases, financial impact analyses, and performance projections for strategic initiatives and operational investments.
Executive & Board Support
- Prepares materials for executive leadership meetings and board committees.
- Leads and executes strategic initiatives assigned by the CEO, COO, or executive leadership team.
- Drives accountability for organizational priorities, action plans, and executive initiatives through monitoring, follow-up, and reporting.
- Serves as a liaison among departments to ensure alignment and accountability.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required & or Preferred Education, Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, public health, finance, or related field required
- Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Public Health (MPH), Business Administration (MBA), or related field preferred
- Five to seven years of progressive experience in healthcare operations, business operations, project management, consulting, strategy, or administrative leadership roles
- Experience in an FQHC, community health center, PACE organization, or healthcare setting strongly preferred
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and operational improvement projects
- Experience supporting executive leadership and managing complex organizational initiatives
- Experience utilizing data and performance metrics to drive operational improvement and decision-making
- Experience leading organizational change initiatives and implementing process improvements
- Knowledge of FQHC operations, reimbursement methodologies, regulatory requirements, and healthcare business practices
- Strong analytical, operational, and financial acumen with the ability to interpret data and support strategic decision-making
- Experience leading complex projects, performance improvement initiatives, and operational change efforts
- Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (including Word, Excel, Outlook & Teams), data visualization tools, and reporting systems.
