Description
Serve as the Chief Conduct Officer for the College, including serving as the hearing officer for high and complex-level cases, as an appeal officer for cases heard by other hearing officers, and as Chair of the Title IX Conduct Hearing Board. Responsible for developing protocols, processes, and associated training materials for the community standards process, including but not limited to reviewing all incident reports, creating and assigning cases to hearing officers, updating the Maxient system reporting features, and conducting training for hearing officers and board members. Responsible for assessing the conduct process and reporting trends. Must remain up-to-date on new laws and regulations that impact the administration of student conduct policies. Serve as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team.
Actual salaries will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to degrees attained, experience, and other considerations permitted by law. Comprehensive compensation details, including any additional benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer.
Responsibilities
- Create and manage the assignment of cases including: conduct, SOC, CARE, Title IX, and BIRT through the Maxient electronic database (or any relevant community standards software), from public safety police reports, housing incident reports, or by other means. Facilitate the resolution of student conduct cases and assign cases to hearing officers. Serve as a hearing officer and appellate officer. Work closely with the Title IX Coordinator; serve as chair of the conduct hearing board for Title IX-related student cases. Use discretion in the assignment or hearing of cases, ensuring equity and policy adherence. Lead the weekend in review interdepartmental meetings. Supervise 1-2 Graduate Assistants.
- Meet and counsel students guiding them to available college resources in collaboration with the DOS. Follow up as necessary, schedule future meetings, and collaborate with other departments (academic advising, academic success, residence life, international office, etc.). Facilitate course of action in case management with students. Support retention and engagement efforts and provide updates on case management at weekly SOC meetings. Manage all electronic notes of SOC meetings.
- Manage the Maxient system and serve as the College's point of contact with the vendor and ITS. Create and support the case creation process for SE (Student Employment), Support (Swipe Out Hunger, Emergency Fund, etc.), Success, ASSIST, SOC, CARE, Title IX, BIRT, Religious Meal Plan Accommodations, and other case types maintained within Maxient.
- Responsible for providing ongoing training to all hearing officers and users of Maxient to ensure compliance with college policies and best practice. Responsible for leading ongoing proactive programming for all students relating to the community standards. Administrator of Vector for required student training for various modules in compliance with state and federal laws. Serve on the committee to assist with the annual Clery Report.
- Handle inquiries and respond to and resolve issues in the areas of community standards and student of concerns. Resolve concerns of families, students, faculty, or staff as needed. Liaise with the General Counsel's Office. Chair the College's Religious Accommodations Meal Plan Committee.
- Conduct and analyze assessment data for Student Conduct and Community Standards, SOC, CARE, Title IX, & BIRT. This includes tracking correspondence, cataloging evidence, maintaining electronic case files, and ensuring all aspects of student sanction compliance. Create and edit Qualtrics (or other survey methods) survey for feedback on the student experience relating to the student conduct process. Update software with all changes, take periodic inventories of cases and communicate information to hearing officers, case managers, and direct supervisors. Inventory and reconcile all community standards cases. Run and present data reports on alcohol and other drugs and various code of conduct violations, in addition to the student experience. Interpret and share these reports appropriately. Recommend and implement changes, processes, policies, and programming/messaging campaigns etc. Review and interpret reports and coordinate appropriate steps, follow up, and process post-meeting actions.
- Lead the annual review process for the Student Handbook in concert with the Vice President for Campus Life & Community Engagement and the Dean of Students. Serve as a permanent member of the Colleges behavioral intervention and threat assessment teams. Provide guidance and support to faculty via training sessions (faculty institute, work with Center for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Scholarship) and individual consultation.
- Manage, develop, and maintain multiple budgets; community standard fines and course fees, for Community Standards and DOS accounts. Allocate dollars to appropriate accounts/line items, monitor budget for compliance, move funds as necessary independently or in consultation with the Vice President. Manage and pay contracts for software and online required educational courses meeting regulatory requirements. Process all student fines and course fees, relating to community standards and update weekly with the business office. Forecast revenue generation and balancing annual budgets.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree Required. Masters Degree in Higher Education, Educational Leadership, Counseling, or Social Work Preferred.
3-5 years working in a higher education setting and at least 3 years of full-time experience in a student support capacity at a higher education institution. Required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of best practice in the field of student discipline, Title IX, and relevant laws. Knowledge and skill to adjudicate code of conduct violations, administrative hearings, use independent judgment and discretion in making decisions. Ability to use and train constituents on Maxient software. Skill in interpreting and editing a student handbook. Must be skilled at handling delicate and confidential situations. Computer savvy with excel, word, power point, google, etc. Technology proficiency is important. Knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, and Clery. Ability to conduct investigations, document findings, and maintain case files for both academic integrity and conduct cases. Knowledge of student organizational conduct processes.
