    Description

Champion Your Future with Tarkett Sports! Build your career with a world leader in sports construction and surfacing.

We are seeking a Director of Construction Operations to lead our construction delivery organization at Tarkett Sports Construction. Based in San Antonio, TX, reporting directly to the Regional Vice President.
This role owns all construction project execution across the Texas region — vertical building construction, civil/sitework, and facility renovation. A separate Self-Perform Operations group handles surface installation and horizontal self-perform work; this role owns everything else.

The core challenge of this role is volume, not scale. You will manage a high-volume portfolio of concurrent projects — typically $500K–$15M each — which requires building the right systems, developing the right team, and knowing when to delegate and when to engage. Personal involvement on every job is not the model.

Year 1 is player-coach: run the first projects while building the team, implementing systems, and standing up the processes that institutional owners and sureties expect from a commercial GC. This role carries a defined path to VP of Construction Operations as the delivery organization matures.

Born from an entrepreneurial spirit and driven to find better solutions, Tarkett Sports challenges the status quo and continues to change the game for athletes and facility owners — pioneering innovations that have reshaped entire industries.

Our team is made up of the most experienced and knowledgeable experts in the field.

From architectural design and full-scope construction to a comprehensive portfolio of industry-leading sports surfacing solutions, we lead with passion, pride, and purpose.

Trusted at every level, from professional stadiums to local community venues, Tarkett Sports is at the surface of over 80,000 installations – highlighted by projects in NFL, CFL, MLS, and at renowned NCAA division I programs.

Join the team behind renowned names like FieldTurf, Beynon Sports, ClassicCourt, GrassMaster, Tarkett Sports Indoor and Tarkett Sports Construction. Help us build the next world-class venue.
    What you'll do:
    Portfolio & Project Delivery
    • Own delivery of a high-volume concurrent project portfolio — typically 5–12 active projects ranging from $500K to $15M, with select projects approaching $20M
    • Manage projects from GMP negotiation through closeout — buyout, subcontractor procurement, schedule, cost-to-complete, and owner communication
    • Drive project-level P&L — deliver at or above bid margin across the full portfolio
    • Manage preconstruction-to-construction handoffs with the Director of Preconstruction
    • Coordinate with VP of Self-Perform Operations on scoping and labor planning
    • Serve as primary client-facing delivery leader for owners from NTP through warranty
    • Support Go/No-Go decisions and owner presentations with delivery credibility

    Team Build & Development
    • Assess, develop, and elevate the existing PM and Construction Manager bench
    • Identify capability gaps and build a hiring plan to close them
    • Recruit and onboard Senior PM(s) with vertical GC experience as the first priority hire
    • Build a team self-sufficient enough to run multiple concurrent projects without Director involvement on every decision
    • Establish operating cadence with peer leaders (Self-Perform, Preconstruction, Sales)
    • Report to the RVP on portfolio performance, org build progress, and risk exposure

    Systems, Processes & Training
    • Design and document project delivery SOPs — project setup, kickoff, execution, and closeout
    • Stand up project controls: cost reporting, WIP schedules, earned value tracking, monthly portfolio reviews
    • Implement Procore workflows across the team — RFI, submittal, QC, daily logs, drawing management
    • Develop QA/QC programs with standardized inspection checklists and hold points
    • Build repeatable, auditable subcontractor procurement and buyout processes
    • Create portfolio reporting dashboards and templates as the regional standard
    • Train new hires and existing staff on all delivery systems — adoption is as important as design

    Safety & Compliance
    • Drive zero-recordable safety culture across all active construction projects
    • Ensure full compliance with TSP safety standards and OSHA requirements on every site
    • Oversee subcontractor safety prequalification and site-level safety accountability

    What you need for success:
    Required
    • 12–15 years in construction project management; candidates must demonstrate direct accountability for GMP delivery, schedule, and cost performance as the builder of record — GC-side delivery experience strongly preferred
    • Demonstrated experience managing a high-volume portfolio of concurrent projects ($500K–$15M range) — volume and concurrent management is more relevant than single large-project experience
    • GMP, Cost-Plus, or CM-at-Risk delivery experience — must understand how to negotiate, manage, and close out a GMP contract
    • Experience in institutional market sectors: K–12, higher ed, municipal, healthcare, or sports/recreation facilities
    • Experience building and developing project teams — hired and developed PMs and field staff, not just inherited them
    • Proven ability to implement project delivery systems and train teams on new processes — this is a core job requirement, not a nice-to-have
    • OSHA 30-Hour certification
    • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field

    Preferred
    • Experience at a Project Executive or Operations Manager level at a national or regional commercial GC
    • Sports, recreation, or athletic facility construction experience
    • CPM scheduling proficiency (P6 or equivalent)
    • Procore, Bluebeam, and construction ERP experience (Sage, Spectrum, or equivalent)
    • Deep knowledge of the Texas construction market — subcontractor base, owners, permitting, competitive landscape
    • CCM, PMP, or DBIA certification
    • MBA or advanced degree

    Physical & Working Conditions
    • Frequent travel to active construction sites across the Texas region (San Antonio, Austin, DFW, Houston) — jobsite presence is expected, not occasional
    • Exposure to outdoor construction environments: weather, noise, heavy equipment, uneven terrain
    • PPE required on all site visits: hard hat, safety vest, steel-toed boots, eye protection
    • Extended hours during critical path, bid seasons, and project closeout periods

    What you can expect:
    • A culture built on teamwork, respect, and entrepreneurial spirit
    • The opportunity to build a construction delivery organization with full regional leadership support
    • A high-growth environment with meaningful opportunities for advancement as the construction delivery organization scales
    • Competitive compensation: base salary, performance incentive tied to portfolio and organizational milestones, vehicle allowance, and retention bonus
    • Peer leadership alongside experienced VPs in Sales, Preconstruction, and Self-Perform Operations
    • A fast-paced, sports-driven environment where your work builds world-class venues for athletes and communities
