Position Overview
We are hiring a Director of Construction to take full ownership of our production department as we enter our next phase of growth. This is a true leadership role built for someone who wants to lead people, drive performance, and build a high-functioning operation-not just manage projects.
You will step in as the leader of the production department, responsible for developing Project Managers, strengthening systems, and ensuring every project runs with clarity, accountability, and control. Your focus is simple: deliver consistent results across schedule, budget, and quality while building a team that can operate at a high level without constant oversight.

This is an on-site leadership role requiring a balance of office-based work and regular presence across active job sites.
What You'll Own
Production Leadership
- Full accountability for all active projects across IL and WI
- Lead and develop Project Managers to operate at a high level
- Own execution across schedule, budget, and quality
Team Development
- Coach, train, and elevate our Production team into independent operators
- Drive performance through scorecards, weekly reviews, and field coaching
- Build a culture of accountability without compromising morale
Schedule & Execution
- Own and manage the master production schedule
- Ensure every project starts with a clear, executable plan
- Maintain high schedule adherence across all jobs
Financial & Job Cost Performance
- Protect gross profit and identify variances early
- Enforce strict change order discipline
- Partner with estimating to continuously improve accuracy
Operational Systems
- Strengthen SOPs, workflows, and production systems
- Ensure consistent use of Buildertrend / JobTread
- Build scalable infrastructure for growth
Field & Trade Partner Oversight
- Maintain and develop strong subcontractor relationships
- Enforce quality, professionalism, and accountability in the field
- Ensure job sites meet company standards at every phase
What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
- Production operates independently from ownership
- 85%+ of projects on or ahead of schedule
- <2% variance in job gross profit
- Production Team consistently hitting performance scorecards
- Clean, predictable project closeouts within 21 days
Qualifications
Required
- 10+ years in residential construction (remodeling, design-build, or custom homes)
- 3+ years in a true leadership role (Director, Production Manager, Ops Leader)
- Proven experience leading and developing Project Managers
- Strong command of scheduling, budgeting, and construction sequencing
- Ability to operate independently with full ownership
Preferred
- Design-build or high-end remodeling experience
- Familiarity with Buildertrend, JobTread, or similar systems
- Experience scaling a construction company
- Ability to actively manage job sites and work directly with field teams
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $100,000 - $130,000 (depending on experience)
- Quarterly Performance Bonus: Based on defined operational metrics (targeting total compensation of $130,000 - $160,000+)
