Position: Director of Counseling & Career Pathways

Reports to: Superintendent

Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000

General Description: The Director of Counseling & Career Pathways will work with school counselors to create and operate an effective counseling program that guides students through high school and helps them prepare for post-secondary careers.

Educational and work experience requirements:

  • MI School Counselor certification
  • School counseling or administrative experience

Essential skills and characteristics:

  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Excellent computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and presentations
  • Effectively verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work individually or in a team

Primary responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee school counselors and all facets of school counseling program
  • Expose students to a wide range of career options through career exploration courses, speakers and field trips
  • Develop, oversee and teach career preparation/employability skills courses and activities
  • Identify and implement programs, courses, clubs and activities that teach career-related skills
  • Coordinate work-based learning and co-operative work programs
  • Establish relationships with local institutions and programs that provide career training
  • Work with school counselors and students to establish career preparation plans suited to student skillsets and interests
  • Describe the Covenant Schools Career Pathways program to potential students and members of the community
  • Assist with student recruitment and community relations
  • Perform all other tasks as requested by the Superintendent and YVS administration.
