Job Title Director of Creative Services Department UNIVERSITY MARKETING Position Number FP026A Location Norfolk, VA Job Summary
The Director of Creative Services will lead the university's creative team and
directly impact the University's brand to help elevate it to a national level.
From concept development to creative execution, the creative director
guides the entire creative process with copywriters, designers,
photographers, and videographers. This includes storyboarding,
implementing creative briefs, connecting the vision and strategy, and leading
the pitch with partners. Additionally, the creative director works with the
marketing team measuring success and gathering insights before and post campaigns.
This position provides supervision to a full-time and part-time photographer,
two full-time videographers, three full-time graphic designers, a full-time
senior copywriter, part-time student workers, as well as, provide direction on
marketing, branding, photo/video, design and video consultants and to
marketing professionals across the university.
This position must manage sensitive issues and navigate crisis
communications in a highly responsive and collaborative manner.
Position Type FullTime Type of Recruitment General Public Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge: Demonstrated considerable knowledge of branding/marketing
and communications tactics and strategies. Demonstrated considerable
knowledge of advertising mediums, tactics, and operations. Demonstrated
considerable knowledge of marketing, advertising, media buying, branding,
digital media, design and/or news media video processes and production.
Four+ years of video storytelling experience for web and/or broadcast.
Extensive video package scripting and research skills for broadcast/video
production. Thorough understanding of online video products, tools, and
specifications.
Skills: Demonstrated exceptional oral and written communications skills.
Demonstrated skill in using multimedia tools such as Adobe Creative Suite
and PowerPoint to develop advertising or marketing campaigns,
presentations, and/or copywriting. Demonstrated skill in working effectively
in a team setting to achieve goals. Must be detail-oriented and highly
organized with the ability to organize, prioritize and plan work. Develop
partnerships and relationships with high-end marketing, media buying, and
video production companies. Use sound research techniques to produce
marketing content with a high degree of accuracy. Experience working in a
fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Demonstrated skills in developing
and leading the creative vision for marketing, multimedia journalism, and
documentary-style video storytelling. Produce and direct long and short form
videos. Produce and direct content in partnership with both pre- and postproduction, directors of photography, photographers, editors, sound, lighting and graphic artists. Ability to write scripts for a variety of target audiences. Direct professional and non-professional actors. Work with senior leadership to promote innovation in videos. Supervise video recordings. Must be a highly creative story-teller with the ability to make research topics compelling through use of b-roll and high-production values.
Abilities: Demonstrated ability to implement policies and procedures
effectively within a decentralized setting. Demonstrated ability to cultivate
and maintain effective relationships with departments, faculty, staff, and
students within the University community. Demonstrated ability to use the
web, video, news media and social networking sites for marketing purposes.
Master's degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Business Administration or other related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Considerable experience with brand marketing/communications in a professional setting. Considerable experience in copywriting and/or developing creative content for marketing or advertising campaigns.
Considerable experience training and supervising staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Some experience in higher education marketing.
Some management experience in a University setting.
Conditions of Employment
In-person reporting required. This position is not eligible to telework.
