    About Bricolage

    Bricolage Academy is searching for Directors of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. Bricolage is a New Orleans charter school that started in 2013 with a Kindergarten and will be growing one year, and one grade, at a time until we serve students in all grades, preK - 12th. We currently serve preK-85th grade.

    About the Role

    Directors of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment at Bricolage Academy help to yield the highest possible student outcomes by investing in their own professional growth & development and the growth & development of the teachers they coach in order to ensure that classrooms are safe, inclusive, equitable, supportive, and joyful and that instruction is relevant, engaging, standards aligned, and culturally responsive.

    Specifically, Directors of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment are responsible for:

    Curriculum

    • Co-lead (with the Principal) the selection &/or creation, implementation, & evaluation of Tier 1 curricular resources including supplementary materials & assessments

    • Effectively communicate the rationale for curricular resource choices

    • Ensure vertical & horizontal alignment of curricular resources with Common Core Standards &/or Next Generation Science Standards

    • Ensure curricular resources can be & are modified to meet the needs of each individual student

    • Plan & lead curriculum specific professional development for leaders, teachers, & parents/families - unit launches, lesson internalizations, parent nights, etc.

    • Develop curriculum maps & scopes & sequences

    • Script class overviews

    • Actively seek ways to supplement the dominant narrative with culturally responsive pedagogy to ensure diversity, equity & inclusion and lead teachers through this process

    • Facilitate the integration of technology, innovation, & design thinking into instruction

    Instruction

    • Lead teachers through the process of setting big quarterly goals for teaching & learning

    • Lead teachers through the process of breaking big goals into bite-sized action steps throughout the quarter

    • Observe teachers weekly

    • Use observation tools with fidelity - video, trackers, rubrics, etc.

    • Plan teacher debriefs before they happen - select the highest leverage, measurable, bite-sized action step

    • Meet with teachers weekly to debrief observations

    • Use the See It, Name It, Do It debrief protocol with fidelity

    • Invest teachers in action steps & hold them accountable for taking them

    • Assess the needs of teachers (& students) & plan & lead professional development to address those needs - instructional best practices, etc.

    • Participate in bi-weekly co-observations & debriefs with the Principal

    • Participate in monthly academic progress monitoring meetings with the Academic Leadership Team

    • Participate in monthly instruction & culture walkthroughs & debriefs with the Academic Leadership Team

    Assessment

    • Plan & lead assessment related professional development for leaders, teachers, staff, & parents/families - data driven instruction, data collection, analysis, & use, etc.

    • Determine multiple measures to student progress - checkpoints, unit tests, interim assessments, student work samples, etc.

    • Coordinate assessment logistics - assessment calendars, student work analysis protocols

    • Analyze assessment data, identifying trends, prioritizing performance concerns, identifying root causes, identifying solutions & planning action steps to address concerns

    • Plan & lead data analysis & meetings

    Professional Growth & Development

    • Model a growth mindset

    • Actively participate in all relevant professional growth & development opportunities - Overcoming Racism, Standards Institute, Good to Great Institute, NSNO Curriculum Hubs, conferences, select readings, coaching debriefs, co-observations & debriefs, instruction & culture walkthroughs, academic progress monitoring meetings, etc.

    Student Culture

    • Form & maintain authentic relationships with students

    • Attend student activities & events (sports, performances, etc.) whenever possible

    • Ensure all classroom systems, structures, & routines prioritize safety, inclusivity, equity, & support

    • Coach teachers toward setting & maintaining high expectations

    • Model leadership & professionalism - effective communication, honor deadlines, follow-through, etc.

    • Set & maintain high expectations for students

    • Hold students accountable for meeting expectations & hold teachers accountable for doing the same

    Staff Culture

    • Form & maintain authentic relationships with staff members

    • Attend staff activities & events whenever possible

    • Ensure all classroom systems, structures, & routines prioritize safety, inclusivity, equity, & support

    • Set & maintain high expectations for teachers

    • Model leadership & professionalism - effective communication, honor deadlines, follow-through, etc.

    • Model staff expectations

    • Hold teachers accountable for meeting expectations

    • Collaborate with Principal to engage diverse perspectives in decision making

    • Collaborate with Principal to script & share weekly staff communication

    • Collaborate with Principal to ensure teachers have the tools they need to be effective

    • Collaborate with Principal to foster constant sharing of ideas & resources

    • Hold regular office hours for teachers

    • Solicit teacher feedback

    • Collaborate with Principal to respond to teacher concerns

    • Identify staffing needs & assist in the selection instructional staff

    Parents & Families

    • Model professionalism & leadership - effective communication, honor deadlines, follow-through, etc.

    • Ensure all classroom systems, structures, & routines prioritize safety, inclusivity, equity, & support

    • Collaborate with Principal & Grade Level Chairs to script & share weekly parent & family communication

    • Co-plan & co-lead quarterly family events

    • Solicit parent feedback

    • Respond to parent concerns

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Strong belief in the Bricolage Academy mission, vision and core values

    • Strong belief in and commitment to diverse, equitable, and inclusive educational access and equitable outcomes

    • Strong belief in and commitment to the city of New Orleans

    • Bachelors degree

    • Deep understanding of Common Core standards

    • Demonstrated success raising student achievement

    • At least 4 years of teaching experience

    • With demonstrated use of culturally responsive teaching strategies

    • At least 2 years of school leadership experience that includes

    • Coaching teachers around Common Core standards aligned instruction & building and maintaining a strong, positive classroom culture

    • Planning and leading PD

    • Leading the collection of, analysis of, and action planning around student performance data

    • Writing Common Core standards aligned curriculum or leading the implementation of Common Core aligned scripted curriculum

    Preferred

    • Has attended Standards Institute as a teacher or leader

    • Has attended Good to Great Institute as a teacher or leader

    • Has completed a formal school leadership training program (Leading Educators, New Leaders for New Schools, Relay NPAF, KIPP Leadership Fellowship, Uncommon Impact, etc.)
