We are seeking an experienced Director of Electrical & Embedded Engineering to lead a multidisciplinary team of electrical and embedded engineers developing advanced ProAV and embedded systems for the Medical, Defense, and Enterprise markets.

This role combines technical leadership, project execution, and team development. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader who enjoys guiding system architecture, solving complex technical challenges, mentoring engineers, and delivering high-performance products from concept through production.

You will play a critical role in shaping the next generation of products while ensuring designs meet performance, quality, regulatory, and schedule objectives.

This is an on-site leadership role within Product Development and Engineering (not remote or hybrid). We offer a fast-paced, high-impact engineering environment with opportunities for professional growth and leadership development.

Key Responsibilities Electrical Design & Development

  • Lead the development of embedded hardware architectures, balancing performance requirements with production cost targets through trade studies and system analysis.

  • Guide schematic capture, PCB layout reviews, and design practices to ensure signal integrity, EMI/EMC mitigation, and thermal performance.

  • Architect and integrate systems using microcontrollers, FPGAs, and SoCs with interfaces such as I²C, SPI, USB, Ethernet, CAN, RS-232/422/485, and PCIe.

  • Support firmware and FPGA development (Verilog/VHDL) for embedded control, communications, and real-time video transport.

  • Oversee design of analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for video processing, control systems, and power management.

  • Define and execute design verification and validation activities, including board bring-up, stress testing, and environmental qualification.

  • Drive continuous improvement in design methodologies, simulation tools, and documentation standards.

Technical Excellence & Collaboration

  • Conduct and participate in peer reviews of hardware designs, schematics, and embedded code.

  • Troubleshoot complex system challenges across analog, digital, and high-speed domains, using structured root cause analysis.

  • Develop and maintain hardware engineering processes that improve design quality and reduce development cycle time.

  • Maintain proper engineering documentation, configuration management, and version control.

  • Interface with customers, vendors, and internal teams to define requirements and ensure successful product delivery.

Leadership & Project Management

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of electrical and embedded engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative engineering culture.

  • Manage engineering activities including project scheduling, resource planning, and milestone tracking.

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of electrical design projects—from concept through production—ensuring high technical standards and timely execution.

  • Provide regular status updates and technical guidance to senior engineering leadership.

  • Lead formal design reviews including System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR).

  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards including IEC 60601, ISO 13485, and MIL-STD where applicable.

  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, firmware, software, production, and QA teams to deliver integrated product solutions.

  • Champion a culture of creativity, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline

  • 10+ years of experience designing and troubleshooting embedded electronic systems in high-reliability industries such as Medical, Defense, Aerospace, or Industrial

  • 3+ years of leadership or management experience

  • Proven hands-on experience with schematic capture, circuit simulation, and mixed-signal PCB design

  • Experience with design tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, or similar

  • Proficiency in FPGA development (VHDL/Verilog) and embedded firmware development in C

  • Demonstrated experience developing embedded hardware from concept through production

  • Experience leading root cause analysis and failure investigations, including 8D reports or similar corrective action processes

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Experience with video and networking interfaces such as HDMI, DisplayPort, SDI, DVI, and Ethernet

  • Familiarity with medical device (IEC 60601, ISO 13485) or military (MIL-STD) design and compliance standards

  • Experience with high-speed digital design, power regulation, and EMI/EMC compliance

  • Experience working with FPGAs and ARM-based SoCs

  • Knowledge of Ethernet networking architectures, PHYs, and switches

Skills & Attributes

  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, comfortable presenting to both technical teams and executive leadership

  • Inspirational leadership style focused on mentoring, accountability, and team growth

  • A hands-on leader who demonstrates curiosity, ownership, and technical integrity

  • Highly self-motivated with a passion for learning new technologies

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite
