The Opportunity
A premier luxury hotel in the Palm Beach area is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead its engineering and maintenance function. This is a hands-on leadership role at a high-end property known for exceptional standards and a discerning clientele. The right person will bring both departmental leadership and day-to-day operational expertise, keeping the property performing at the highest level without ever disrupting the guest experience.

The Role
The Director of Engineering is responsible for the performance of the engineering department — including room calls, painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and grounds keeping. This leader oversees vendors and major repairs, maintains all equipment at peak performance, controls payroll and expenses, and responds to guest needs at every level. Working in unison with the broader hotel operations team, the Director of Engineering helps create a seamless, service-driven environment while upholding five-diamond property standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Hire, train, lead, and develop the engineering and maintenance team
• Build a productive, reliable department and continuously improve its performance
• Establish a CARE program ensuring guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house remain in five-diamond condition
• Oversee preventative maintenance, daily checklists, and room-call tracking to ensure timely completion
• Maintain logs for equipment readings, key controls, and secure areas
• Oversee security systems, fire panels, and secure key-control protocols
• Manage vendor and contractor relationships, selecting competent, results-oriented partners
• Own departmental budgeting, purchasing, inventory, and expense tracking
• Oversee pool maintenance and overall property conditions
• Review monthly reporting to identify and resolve ongoing issues
• Walk the property regularly to identify and prevent potential problems
• Participate in the Manager-on-Duty program

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience as a Director of Engineering or Assistant DOE in a full-service hotel or resort
• Certification in HVAC and refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing
• Luxury, full-service, or high-touch hospitality experience strongly preferred
• Experience managing a complex property with ongoing infrastructure needs
• Strong project management, budgeting, and vendor-coordination skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication and strong training skills
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Computer literate, with the ability to maintain detailed logs and reports
• Availability to work a flexible schedule
• A professional presence appropriate for a luxury environment and clientele
