Director of English Learner Program Instruction

 

 

Mission:

The Director of English Learner Programs- Instruction, reporting to the Managing Director of English Learner Programs, leads and designs instruction for the district's English Learner program. Responsibilities include developing, coordinating, and managing professional learning, coaching, and capacity building for leaders and teachers in multilingual education. They serve as an instructional leader, implementing programs and practices to support English Learner students in classrooms. This role provides leadership, supervision, and coordination of instructional practices in Bilingual/ESL studies to ensure students meet or exceed state standards.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Responsible for supervision of English Language Learner Managers

 

Location:

This is a full-time hybrid (remote/onsite) position based in Texas, with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.

 

Travel Expectations:    

Up to 30% at the busiest times of the year.

 

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities

 

Essential Duties:

·          Partner with the Managing Director of English Leaner Programs to coordinate English Learner instructional programs (Bilingual, ESL, Sheltered Instruction) for Texas campuses

·          Implement a comprehensive instructional program for multilingual learners aligned with district goals and state standards.

·          Provide leadership and support to district leaders, administrators, and teachers in effective instructional strategies for multilingual education.

·          Organize professional development opportunities for leaders, teachers, and staff on culturally responsive teaching practices and language acquisition theories.

·          Coordinate with National English Language Learner Managers & Regional Emergent Bilingual and/or Regional Intervention Coaches to assist teachers to develop and provide EB/EL students with appropriate course work through curriculum modification, accommodations, etc.

·          Develop, and oversee the national support for regional Emergent Bilingual Coaches and Regional Intervention Coaches (EB support)

·          Ensure compliance with federal and state mandates for English Learner programs.

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

·          Ensure compliance with federal and state mandates for English Learner programs

·          Develop instructional policies for recommendation to the board.

·          Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.

·          Complete and file the annual Bilingual/ESL waiver/exception

·          In conjunction with VP of Human Resources or designee, co-leads district initiative for increasing number of Bilingual & ESL certified teachers.

·          Manage, coach, and evaluate performance of English Language Learner Managers

·          Leads and manages through influence national and regional support personnel for the EB/EL program.

·          Assist the Managing Director of English Learner Programs in defining program and fiscal needs for budget development.

·          Assists the Managing Director of English Learner Programs to demonstrate responsible fiscal control over assigned program budgets.

·          the Managing Director of English Learner Programs to maintain compliance with state law and education standards.

·          Proficiency in computer and software usage.

Required experience:

·          Bachelor’s degree in Education, Linguistics, or related field.

·          Minimum of 4 years of experience in teaching English Language Development (ELD) or working with English Learner (EL) students.

·          Experience in coordinating or leading English Learner instructional programs.

·          Experience in providing professional development and coaching to teachers in ELD instruction.
 

Preferred experience:

·          Master's degree in Education, TESOL, or related field.

·          Certification in English as a Second Language (ESL) or Bilingual Education (Bilingual preferred).

·          Experience in curriculum design, implementation, and assessment.

·          Knowledge of Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) or similar instructional models.

·          Previous leadership or supervisory experience in an educational context.

Physical Requirements:

·          Occasional exposure to outside elements.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $98,200 and $115,900, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity.This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
