Director of Environmental Services

Headquartered in Birmingham, AL, our field operations are located throughout the Appalachian Basin in the states of Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In 2021, Diversified announced our expansion into our Central Regional Focus Area, which includes producing areas within Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

POSITION SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Environmental Services will report to the Senior Vice President of Environmental, Health and Safety and lead all matters related to Water Management for Upstream Operations in Appalachia for Diversified Energy Company.  The position will be officed in any of our existing operations field offices in Appalachia, with a preference for Pennsylvania locations. Special focus will be placed on:

• Water management including but not limited to produced water, flowback, coal bed methane connate, fresh water, waste oil, and other waste fluids.
• Management of costs associated with water management, with the primary goals of compliance, cost reduction, efficiency.
• Effective communication of matters related to water management including vision, strategy, and critical actions to advance company-wide water management.
• Effective collection of water data.
• Efficient management and use of Gemini Shale Solutions digital water ticket services.
• Assist operations in development of standard operating procedures and safe work practices for water management.
• Assist operations in development of spill prevention.
• Ownership of safety culture efforts.
• Ownership of the Water Team Committee and all matters related to initiatives, action items and programs flowing from the committee
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with Operations Supervisors and EHS managers to foster teamwork.
• Maintain trailing and leading water statistics including BI dashboards.
• Provide regular updates to VP EHS, VP Upstream Operations, District Supervisors.
• Deliver high-impact messaging and training using enhanced learning techniques such as workgroups, micro-learning, video, and other dynamic content with the goal of empowering others to improve water management.
• Use of AI to assist in efficiency, quality and management of data and workflows.
• Maintain a field presence to understand challenges of operations. Work with Operations to identify challenges, then collaborate on and implements solutions.
• Supervise operation of the Crooked Creek Treatment Facility, including:
• • Compliance and permit renewal
  • Training of Lease Operators
  • Monitoring of treatment and quality control
  • Chemical inventory and ordering
  • Chemical adjustment
  • Supervising equipment maintenance, repair and replacement
  • eDMR completion and submission
• Provide guidance and assistance to field operations and operations leaders.
• Respond to state and federal agency inquiries.
• Proactively support and/or leads EH&S initiatives that support the business and the organization's themes and corporate strategies.
• Contribute to and influence team priorities as a strong team member or leader. Seeks the ideas and opinions of others. Encourage and motivate teams to accomplish results. Fosters trust.
• Knowledge of Environmental regulations and programs, with experience in leadership with environmental and regulatory programs is a plus.
• Travel requirement - 15% (up to 50% during initial training period).
• Ability to read and interpret water analysis.
• Ability to read, review and comment on water related legal documents.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor of Science degree in environmental, or other science, engineering or technical subjects, preferred.
• 5 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry is preferred.
• Prior experience in water manager preferred.
• Demonstration of communication and networking skills.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Prolonged periods working at a desk in front of a computer.

• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
