Description:

Title: Director of Environmental Services

Job Type: Fulltime 

Location: Minneapolis, MN


Job Responsibilities:

  • Define, champion, and advance the strategic vision for the Environmental Services practice within a multidisciplinary engineering and consulting organization
  • Lead and manage an established team of environmental professionals specializing in environmental compliance, permitting, and documentation
  • Oversee workload planning, staffing, schedules, and coordination across multiple project teams and service lines
  • Drive growth by expanding environmental service offerings through strategic hiring, training, partnerships, and market development
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities; prepare technical proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimates
  • Collaborate closely with transportation and land development project managers to ensure timely, high-quality environmental deliverables
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, maintaining clear communication on project status, logistics, and expectations
  • Monitor and manage project quality, budgets, and schedules to ensure successful project execution
  • Mentor and develop staff to strengthen technical expertise, leadership capability, and professional growth
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, client meetings, and professional associations to enhance market presence and visibility

Must Have / Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Geology, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the environmental consulting or environmental services sector
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting technical information to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality client service and meet project deadlines
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulatory programs at the federal, state, municipal, and watershed levels, including:
    • NPDES permitting
    • Wetland Conservation Act
    • Public Waters permitting
    • Section 404 and 401 permitting
  • Thorough understanding of environmental review and documentation processes, including:
    • Environmental Impact Statements (EIS)
    • Environmental Assessments (EA/EAW)
    • Alternative Urban Areawide Reviews (AUAR)
    • Categorical Exclusions (CATEX)
  • Experience working directly with owners, regulatory agencies, and contractors on active construction projects
  • Proven success in proposal development, marketing efforts, and securing new projects
