Clinical Nurse Directors shape healthy work environments through nursing leadership skills and functions that include clinical, operational and financial effectiveness. The Clinical Director has direct impact on care and services that patient and families require throughout their health care experience. The Clinical Nurse Director achieves a professional culture that successfully recruits and retains nurses through the novice to expert continuum. The Clinical Nurse Director is essential for leading change in each clinical area. The Clinical Nurse Director plays a key role in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety initiatives for the organization. Promoting compliance with regulatory standards and legal processes is critical to the success of this position. The Clinical Directors must have a clear understanding of healthcare dynamics and trends. This position reports to the Chief Nursing Officer. Clinical Directors must be a positive representative of nursing within the organization and externally as a professional in the discipline of nursing. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. The accredited school is defined as the specific school of nursing accreditation, which is commonly either ACEN and/or CCNE. The School of Nursing degree can be an Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. If the Clinical Director does not have a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) on hire a program to obtain a BSN or higher within the year of hire with expected completion within four (4) years of hire into the position. A Master’s degree is preferred or can be accomplished within an established time frame of four (4) years post BSN or post hire date if BSN is baseline education. A doctoral degree is desirable. The Clinical Nurse Director will be currently licensed and in good standing as a Registered Nurse by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing. Competency requirements are determined per clinical areas. Requirements for BLS, ACLS, TNCC, NRP, PALS or other course certifications are determined per clinical area. National certification in specialty is encouraged. Membership in a minimum of one national professional organization that corresponds to the position is required. Job Knowledge and Skills: Clinical Nurse Directors require well-honed skills in coaching, motivating and leading a professional team for the delivery of safe and effective care. Clinical Nurse Directors have knowledge of systems and can demonstrate competency in quality improvement and management of fiscal resources. Must have ability to manage project and multiple projects at one time. Must be able to interpret data to improve outcomes. Must be able to write and implement nationally recognized standards of practice. Must be knowledgeable of regulatory standards. Able to demonstrate abilities with confidentiality, willingness to accept and lead change, show concerns for others and maintain professional and hospital standards of care. Must be able to demonstrate sound analytical and problem skills to improve patient outcomes. Professional physician and peer relations skills is an essential requirement. Verify that perioperative personnel provide safe and effective patient-centered care. Assist perioperative management personnel with incorporating evidence-based knowledge into decisions for the provision of safe, patient-centered care in perioperative services. 5. 6. Assist perioperative management personnel in evaluating practice and creating strategies for further improvement. Verify that educational resources are available for perioperative services personnel and hold personnel accountable for compliance with established standards. 7. 8. May be asked to participate on hospital teams, committees, or projects. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This role supervises all staff in the department. WORK ENVIRONMENT Incumbent will be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in working environment. Incumbent may be required to work extended periods of time at a video display terminal (VDT). Incumbent may experience traumatic situations, including psychiatric, dismembered and deceased patients.
