The Director of Evangelism Formation is an ordained member of the faculty. He leads and coordinates the development and execution of evangelism formation. This includes classes, experience, and observation in the areas of church revitalization, evangelism, church planting, cross-cultural outreach, and international missions, giving attention to rural ministries, small congregations, and urban settings. Additionally, this person will serve as the Assistant Director of Vicarage and Internships. Person manages students on vicarage and internships enrolled in the Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology (EIIT) and the Cross-cultural Ministry Center (CMC) program at Concordia University Irvine, CA. He supports the work of the Associate Dean for Urban and Cross-Cultural Ministry with the EIIT program and the CMC program, especially in regard to vicarages and internships.
Director of Evangelism Formation:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advocate for Evangelism Formation.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with LCMS districts, Synod offices and entities, congregations, and other recognized ministry partners in support of evangelism, outreach, and church planting.
Coordinate and develop classes, continuing education, experiences, and observations as needed, working with and learning from LCMS initiatives.
Teach classes and lead experiences and observations as needed.
Coordinate with the Director of Vicarages and Internships for Vicarage Evangelism Formation.
Coordinate with the Director of RFE for RFE Evangelism Formation.
Oversee and administer the Community Outreach Project for all vicars and deaconess interns during their vicarage/internship year
Maintain the instructions for the project and adjust as needed in consultation with the Director of Vicarage.
Provide training as part of the academic curriculum
One 90-minute presentation during PRA506 and PRA507 regarding MissionInsite and other tools utilized in that course and which will eventually be utilized in the Community Outreach Project.
One hour during a Formation Hour.
Assist students and supervisors as needed in the development of their projects.
Review and assess the assignments as outlined in the instructions for the project
Assistant Director of Vicarage and Internships:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
APPOINTMENT STATUS: A Concordia Seminary professor with significant experience in some area of evangelistic outreach, appointed by the president.
Candidate must be an ordained pastor of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod or a partner church body and must have served in a congregational setting for at least five years. He demonstrates a strong commitment to the Scriptures as the inspired, written Word of God and the Lutheran Confessions as a correct exposition of the Scriptures. The successful candidate will be solid in his Lutheran understanding of biblical interpretation and in his ability to apply biblical teaching through Word and sacrament ministry. The candidate will have earned a terminal degree or will present plans to complete a terminal degree.
