Are you passionate about leading the strategic management of world-class facilities that serve Native American students and the broader Milwaukee community? The Indian Community School is seeking a Director of Facilities and Engineering to oversee the stewardship of our iconic campus, ensuring our buildings and grounds reflect the highest standards of excellence and cultural integrity. In this leadership role, you''ll guide the long-term vision and quality of our environment, fostering academic achievement, cultural enrichment, and well-being in collaboration with the Building and Grounds and Master Grounds Committees.
The ideal candidate will possess a strategic vision, leadership, and a commitment to excellence that support a positive, engaging learning environment by demonstrating the following essential duties and responsibilities:
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive facilities management strategy aligned with school leadership and educational objectives.
- Direct the seven-day-per-week operation of the facility and campus grounds to maintain a first-class learning environment.
- Foster a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement by hiring, training, evaluating, and motivating all Facilities staff.
Facilities & Grounds Stewardship
- Plan, establish, and maintain annual and long-range programs for preventative maintenance, repairs, and replacements of building elements.
- Partner with the Building and Grounds Committee to execute repairs, maintenance, or alterations of specialty, iconic architectural elements.
- Maintain campus grounds in excellent condition, blending a safe outdoor learning environment with an indigenous land ethic and culture.
- Oversee and upgrade computerized building automation systems (HVAC, lighting, fire alarms) and internal work request software.
Safety, Security & Compliance
- Oversee the comprehensive physical safety and security of all ICS property for students, staff, and visitors.
- Maintain the ICS Emergency Operations Plan and cultivate strategic partnerships with local law enforcement and fire departments.
- Ensure strict compliance with OSHA, building codes, and safety regulations while co-leading the school Safety Committee.
Fiscal, Vendor & Project Management
- Collaborate with the CFO to establish annual and long-range budgets, reduce occupancy expenses, and maximize asset life cycles.
- Manage external vendors, contractors, and MEP trade providers; create RFPs, solicit bids, and negotiate cost-effective contracts.
- Direct minor construction projects from conception to completion and partner with the Owner's Representative on major capital projects.
Sustainability & Cultural Integration
- Implement energy-efficient practices, initiatives, and technical solutions to reduce operating costs and environmental impact.
- Actively incorporate Native American culture, language, traditions, and the seven core values into daily activities.
