Job Description

Role Summary:

The Director of Facilities is responsible for keeping the restaurant, equipment, vehicles, and grounds clean, safe, and guest-ready at all times. This role owns preventative and reactive maintenance, manages outside vendors, and ensures the building meets inspection and sanitation standards. The Director of Facilities champions organization, accountability, and attention to detail while helping create a welcoming environment for both guests and team members.

Key Responsibilities:

Equipment & Maintenance Management

  • Follow and complete the Good Cents calendar for all preventative maintenance
  • Present monthly maintenance updates to supervisor
  • Complete reactive maintenance and repairs within a 24-48 hour period
  • Maintain a backup of key kitchen supplies and at least one backup of each smallware item
  • Keep off-site, office, and outside storage organized

Building & Interior Maintenance

  • Maintain walls (painting, filling holes, and updates)
  • Maintain floors, ensuring the Factory Cat is working and there are no broken tiles
  • Ensure all interior and exterior light bulbs are working
  • Ensure paper towel, hand sanitizer, and Ecolab dispensers are working
  • Maintain plumbing and hand sinks, and keep drains clear and in proper condition
  • Clean ceilings and vents throughout the restaurant
  • Ensure door gaskets are in working order
  • WD-40 doors and patio trash cans monthly
  • Ensure John's Checklist is completed

Furniture

  • Ensure chairs are not wobbly or ripped and table legs are clean
  • Ensure booths are not ripped
  • Ensure tables are not wobbly, table numbers are in place, and trim is in good condition

Drive-Thru, Sidewalks & Exterior

  • Put up drive-thru booths in October and remove them in March
  • Clean menu boards and reader board windows monthly
  • Clean drive-thru canopies monthly
  • Oil Tormax door tracks monthly
  • Ensure sidewalks are clean and power washed bi-weekly
  • Replace flags when torn and lower to half staff as required

Dumpster & Grounds Cleanliness

  • Ensure dumpster areas meet standards with no trash on the ground
  • Ensure we are not fined by the trash pickup company for trash on the ground

Vehicles & Trailer

  • Clean the inside and outside of each vehicle monthly
  • Ensure vehicle preventative maintenance is completed (oil changes, brakes, tire rotations)
  • Maintain the trailer generator (oil changes, winterizing)
  • Winterize the trailer and hand sink
  • Deep clean the trailer monthly from May to September
  • Drive to and set up the trailer at events as needed

Vendor Management & Compliance

  • Work with Landscaping, Pressure Wash, Window Cleaning, Trash Pickup, Pest Control, and Cintas
  • Check vendor work and ensure they are completing their full scope
  • Inform Tara if a vendor is not meeting standards
  • Ensure the restaurant is ready for the yearly Fox Valley fire inspection (Ansul and fire extinguishers updated)

Snow Removal

  • Ensure snow is removed from all areas
  • Work with SnowBeGone
  • Salt when needed

Inventory & Food Cost (For Now)

  • Directly oversee truck ordering and inventory management
  • Train Shift Leads on truck ordering and inventory procedures
  • Ensure inventory is organized and stored properly at all times
  • Maintain organization and accuracy within Signal
  • Ensure QICs are submitted promptly
  • Implement and maintain systems to track waste and Shared Table
  • Maintain a suggested order acceptance rate of 95% or higher
  • Partner with other Assistant Directors to improve food cost performance and identify opportunities
  • Track food cost goals

Requirements:

  • Be a servant leader who leads by example: be on time, go the extra mile, and help team members when necessary. Lead with the philosophy of being the guide, not the hero.
  • Be able to communicate and lead others in a way that is encouraging while still holding others accountable for results
  • Be reliable and proficient in all operational positions
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset by consistently looking for ways to improve and developing others
  • Available to work 40 hours per week, including weekends and 3 of 4 major holidays
  • Major holidays include: day before Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, and day after Christmas
  • Work 5 days per week
  • Maintain open availability, including at least 2 evening shifts and 2 morning shifts weekly
  • Available to work 3 Saturdays per month

If Sick:

  • As a business professional, you are responsible for determining whether you are able to work
  • Asking a Shift Lead if you can go home is not professional, and coming to work sick may violate health policy
  • Inform all direct reports who they can contact with questions
  • Coordinate responsibilities with another Assistant Director
  • If advice is needed, contact Lydia
  • Find coverage or assign another Shift Lead
  • If the team is 3 or more people short, you are expected to assist in coverage or help find support

Professionalism Expectations:

  • Be professional at all times
  • Do not gossip
  • Communicate concerns upward to your supervisor (Lydia), not downward to Shift Leads or team members
  • Maintain professionalism in all conversations regarding work or team members at CFA Valpo
