Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of Finance for an established and highly respected performing arts nonprofit in New York City. This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished nonprofit finance leader to join a dynamic, creative organization with a significant presence in the performing arts community, sophisticated financial operations, and diverse revenue streams. The Director of Finance will have tremendous visibility and influence across the organization, partnering closely with executive leadership and the Board while leading a talented finance team and helping shape the organization's continued financial strength and sustainability. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in New York, NY, with two remote days per week.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Director of Finance will serve as the organization's senior financial leader and strategist, overseeing the full scope of finance and accounting operations while providing thoughtful financial guidance to executive leadership. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this individual will lead budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, compliance, and operational finance while managing and developing an established finance team. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide strategic financial leadership across the organization, including forecasting, financial analysis, cash management, accounting, banking, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and overall financial operations.
  • Lead annual budgeting and financial planning in partnership with executive leadership, providing monthly and quarterly reporting, analysis, and actionable financial insights to senior leadership and the Board of Trustees.
  • Lead, mentor, and support the finance team while strengthening internal controls, streamlining processes, optimizing systems, and improving the efficiency of day-to-day financial operations.
  • Oversee annual audit preparation, external auditor relationships, Form 990 and state reporting, organizational insurance programs, regulatory requirements, and other areas of financial compliance.
  • Collaborate across Development, Institutional Partnerships, Ticket Services, Box Office, and other departments to ensure accurate reconciliation and reporting of contributed and earned revenue, restricted funding, grants, fundraising activity, ticketing, and other revenue streams.
  • Provide financial oversight for contracts, leases, vendor relationships, subsidiary activity, rental and tax credit activity, and rights and licensing income while ensuring alignment with organizational budgets and priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong nonprofit financial leadership background with expertise across budgeting, forecasting, accounting, financial reporting, cash management, and complex financial operations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of nonprofit accounting, audits, restricted funding, regulatory compliance, and Form 990 reporting; performing arts experience is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop finance teams while serving as a trusted financial partner to executive leadership, Boards, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong systems and technology capabilities, including advanced Excel skills and experience with financial platforms such as NetSuite, Tessitura, or comparable accounting systems.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, project management, and communication skills with a collaborative, inclusive leadership style and strong attention to detail.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This position offers a competitive salary of $170,000-$180,000, depending on experience. The organization also offers a comprehensive benefits package including vacation, medical and dental insurance, a retirement plan, life insurance, and long-term disability coverage upon eligibility.
