    Position Summary:
American Polymer Company is seeking a hands-on, strategic Director of Finance to lead the company’s finance and accounting functions during a period of continued growth and operational expansion.
The Director of Finance will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash and working capital management, manufacturing cost accounting, tax planning, reporting and compliance management, internal controls, risk management, financial systems, and business performance analysis. This individual will serve as a key member of the leadership team and provide clear, timely financial information that supports operational and strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting knowledge with practical manufacturing and tax experience. This person must be comfortable moving between high-level financial strategy and detailed operational analysis, including product costs, inventory, margins, capital investments, and plant performance.

    Key Responsibilities:
    Financial Leadership and Business Partnership:
    • Serve as the primary financial advisor to the ownership team.
    • Translate financial information into practical recommendations that improve profitability, cash flow, and operational performance.
    • Lead the annual budgeting process, periodic forecasting, and long-range financial planning.
    • Develop financial models for growth initiatives, capacity expansion, new products, capital investments, geographic expansion, and other strategic opportunities.
    • Partner with Operations, Sales, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Human Resources to establish financial goals and measure performance.
    • Evaluate business risks and opportunities and communicate their potential financial impact to leadership.
    • Prepare financial information and presentations for company ownership, lenders, and other stakeholders.

    Accounting and Financial Reporting:
    • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
    • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of income statements, balance sheets, cash-flow statements, and supporting schedules.
    • Maintain compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company accounting policies.
    • Manage account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, reserves, and financial statement classifications.
    • Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, tax professionals, insurance providers, banks, and other financial partners.
    • Coordinate annual financial reviews or audits and ensure requested information is complete and accurate.
    • Oversee federal, state, local, and applicable international tax compliance.
    • Establish a consistent reporting structure across APC’s facilities, departments, and business activities.

    Manufacturing Finance and Cost Accounting:
    • Develop and maintain accurate product-costing methodologies, including material, labor, freight, and manufacturing overhead.
    • Ensure bills of material, routings, labor standards, and overhead rates are accurately reflected in the financial system.
    • Analyze purchase price, material usage, labor efficiency, overhead absorption, scrap, and other manufacturing variances.
    • Partner with Operations to evaluate plant productivity, capacity utilization, production efficiency, and cost-reduction opportunities.
    • Provide accurate product, customer, project, and channel profitability analysis.
    • Support pricing decisions by evaluating costs, margins, freight, customer requirements, and market considerations.
    • Coordinate and manage inventory valuation, reserves, cycle-count results, physical inventories, and obsolete or slow-moving inventory.
    • Establish meaningful operational and financial key performance indicators for APC’s manufacturing facilities.

    Financial Planning and Analysis:
    • Maintain a rolling financial forecast covering revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, capital expenditures, cash flow, and working capital.
    • Analyze actual results compared with budget, forecast, and prior periods.
    • Identify the operational causes of financial variances and work with department leaders to develop corrective actions.
    • Develop dashboards and management reports that clearly communicate financial and operational performance.
    • Analyze sales backlog, production plans, purchasing requirements, staffing needs, and expected cash-flow impacts.
    • Conduct scenario and sensitivity analysis to support major business decisions.
    • Establish consistent financial evaluation procedures for new products, customers, contracts, equipment, and expansion projects.

    Cash Flow and Working Capital:
    • Maintain a detailed cash-flow forecast, including a rolling 13-week cash forecast.
    • Monitor liquidity requirements and ensure the company has sufficient resources to support operations and growth.
    • Improve working capital through effective management of accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, customer deposits, and vendor terms.
    • Establish and administer customer credit policies, credit limits, collections procedures, and escalation requirements.
    • Review major purchasing commitments and their impact on inventory and cash flow.
    • Manage banking relationships, debt compliance, borrowing activity, and lender reporting.
    • Evaluate financing alternatives for equipment, facilities, acquisitions, and other capital requirements.

    Internal Controls and Risk Management:
    • Develop and maintain appropriate financial policies, procedures, approval authorities, and internal controls.
    • Develop and maintain best practices and methodologies for bookkeeping with the goal of establishing systems that provide robust financial controls to prevent duplicate payments, missed invoices, and other critical bookkeeping errors.
    • Ensure proper segregation of duties and oversight of cash, purchasing, payments, payroll, inventory, and financial reporting.
    • Identify financial, operational, and compliance risks and recommend appropriate controls.
    • Establish procedures for contract review, capital expenditure authorization, expense approval, and vendor management.
    • Maintain accurate supporting documentation and ensure the organization is prepared for financial reviews and audits.
    • Coordinate financial aspects of insurance, risk management, legal matters, and regulatory compliance.
    • Manage strategy, compliance, and cost across all lines of insurance.

    Financial Systems and Process Improvement:
    • Serve as the business owner for APC’s financial processes within NetSuite.

    • Provide financial education and support to department and plant leaders.
    • Coordinate effectively with external accounting, tax, audit, banking, and consulting partners.

    Required Qualifications:
