Director of Finance (Non-Profit)

About the Role

Light of Life Ministries has served the homeless and those in need since 1952.  We are a faith-based non-profit making a significant community contribution in the Northside of Pittsburgh.

Currently we seek a Director of Finance to lead the organization's financial and accounting operations. This role is responsible for maintaining strong financial controls, ensuring adherence to GAAP and ECFA standards, and delivering timely, well-supported reporting to leaders and the Board. The position is well suited for someone who brings sound judgment, works effectively within established standards, and can move between detailed financial oversight and broader organizational support.

Core Responsibilities

1. Lead all accounting processes across the organization's entities in alignment with internal control policies and procedures

   1. Direct the annual budget creation process and provide financial guidance that supports sound organizational planning

   2. Prepare and deliver timely financial reports for managers, senior leaders, the Board, and external stakeholders

   3. Oversee the annual audit process for Light of Life and L2 Community Support, including preparation of documentation and coordination with auditors

   4. Ensure financial transactions and reporting practices remain aligned with GAAP, ECFA standards, and internal policies

2. Provide financial input on contracts, budget decisions, and organizational development initiatives

3. Partner with senior leaders to support financial and budgetary decision-making across the organization

4. Hire, lead, and develop the accounting team while reinforcing accountability, quality, and consistency in execution

Required Skills & Abilities

• Strong command of accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit preparation

• Ability to interpret financial information clearly for both financial and non-financial stakeholders

• Sound decision-making skills supported by careful review of financial details and documentation

• Ability to manage multiple financial priorities while maintaining quality and follow-through

• Clear written and verbal communication skills for Board reporting, stakeholder updates, and internal collaboration

• Experience leading and developing a finance or accounting team

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

• Significant experience in finance and accounting leadership

• Knowledge of GAAP and financial control practices required

• Experience supporting audits and preparing formal financial reporting required

• Experience in a nonprofit environment and familiarity with ECFA standards preferred
