About the Opportunity:






CFS is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead financial operations supporting community-based healthcare and behavioral health services. This opportunity is ideal for a strategic leader committed to fiscal stewardship, regulatory compliance, and long-term organizational sustainability.


Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Finance will oversee budgeting, forecasting, accounting, financial reporting, audits, cash management, billing, grant and funder reporting, and internal controls. The Director of Finance will partner with executive leadership, board committees, and department leaders to provide financial guidance that supports organizational goals and mission impact.


The successful Director of Finance will provide both strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight of financial operations, ensuring compliance, operational efficiency, and sound fiscal management. This role includes supervising finance staff, managing audit processes, overseeing healthcare billing functions, and maintaining the financial integrity of the organization and its related entities. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, ethical, and mission-driven professional with strong analytical skills and the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the organization.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Lead all accounting, finance, budgeting, and financial reporting functions.

  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans.

  • Monitor organizational cash flow, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial performance metrics.

  • Oversee healthcare and program billing processes and ensure timely reimbursement collection.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.

  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and regulatory reporting obligations.

  • Coordinate and manage all external, state, county, and independent audits.

  • Present financial reports, analyses, and recommendations to executive leadership and Board Finance Committees.

  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and risk management practices.

  • Supervise and support accounting, billing, finance, and related administrative staff.

  • Partner with operational leaders to evaluate program performance and financial sustainability.

  • Oversee financial systems, technology enhancements, and reporting tools that improve organizational efficiency.

  • Prepare and submit financial reports required by government agencies, funders, and other stakeholders.

  • Support strategic initiatives through financial modeling, analysis, and decision support.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of organizational objectives.


Qualifications for the Director of Finance:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required; Master's degree or CPA preferred

  • 5+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably within nonprofit, behavioral health, community health, or human services organizations

  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, budgeting, financial compliance, and grant management


    • Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement, medical billing, and funding streams preferred



  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Advanced proficiency in accounting systems, financial reporting software, and Microsoft Excel

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to both financial and non-financial audiences



Schedule:
32-40 hours per week, 100% on site in Owings Mills, MD M-F
Salary: $100,000-$125,000
