Job Description

About Mayman Aerospace

Mayman Aerospace is building the RAZOR family of high-speed turbine VTOL aircraft, the smallest, fastest, heavy-lift autonomous VTOL platforms in the world. Our aircraft deliver mission superiority in contested environments across logistics, strike, cUAS and disaster response. We are a dual-use company: the same platform that can serve the U.S. and allied warfighters can also serve industrial and humanitarian customers worldwide.

About the Role

We're hiring our first senior business development leader to own the growth function end-to-end. Reporting to the CEO, you will shape Mayman Aerospace's go-to-market across the U.S. Department of Defense, allied militaries, and dual-use commercial markets and convert that strategy into signed contracts and Programs of Record. You'll inherit live international relationships and an accelerating DoD engagement footprint. This is a player/coach role: you will personally drive capture and build the growth team as pipeline warrants.

What You'll Do

  • Own the full opportunity lifecycle. Identify, shape, capture, and close DoD and allied programs from early requirements-shaping and customer-funded R&D through production contracts and Programs of Record.
  • Build the strategy. Develop a data-driven, prioritized plan covering U.S. services (SOCOM, Army, USN/USMC, USAF), the Intelligence Community, allied MoDs, and dual-use commercial segments. Recommend where Mayman Aerospace should deploy capital to close capability gaps ahead of customer need.
  • Run the contracts playbook. Lead responses across every acquisition pathway that fits a company our size: SBIR/STTR, OTAs, CSOs, APFIT, MTAs, BAAs, and relevant competitions. Partner with Engineering on proposal development and contract negotiation.
  • Own relationships. Develop and maintain trusted relationships with PAEs, PEOs, Program Managers, Warfare Centers, service labs, operational units, and allied partner militaries. Represent Mayman Aerospace externally at industry events, demos, and customer engagements.
  • Scale international. Grow and manage international interest and open new relationships through FMS, DCS, and direct commercial channels.
  • Inform product. Translate customer operational requirements into actionable inputs to engineering and the RAZOR roadmap. Serve as the two-way bridge between the customer's problem set and the product team.
  • Build the team. Recruit, mentor, and lead a growth team as the pipeline justifies. Set the bar for how Mayman Aerospace shows up with customers.
  • Protect the company. Ensure compliance with ITAR, EAR, DFARS cyber, and MIL-STD requirements in all BD activity.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of business development, capture, or program management experience in defense or aerospace, with a demonstrated track record of closing DoD contracts from shaping through award.
  • Deep working knowledge of DoD acquisition pathways, including SBIR/STTR, OTAs, CSOs, APFIT, and the government resourcing cycle.
  • Established relationships within at least one priority customer community: SOCOM, Army aviation, USN/USMC aviation, USAF, or the Defense S&T community.
  • Demonstrated ability to author winning proposals and lead capture teams.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and executive-briefing communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel 50% of the time, including internationally.
  • U.S. Person status as defined by ITAR (citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior U.S. military operational experience, particularly in aviation, SOF, or naval aviation. Acquisition-side tours are a strong plus.
  • BD experience at a pre-Series A startup or small defense company.
  • Comfort operating without a large support infrastructure.
  • Experience launching dual-use products across both DoD and commercial markets.
  • International BD experience in any of the following: FMS, DCS, allied partner engagement, export-license navigation.
  • Familiarity with UAS, VTOL, autonomy, or manned-unmanned teaming programs.
  • Active or recent TS/SCI clearance.
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field (engineering, national security, business).
