DIRECTOR OF HEALTH INFORMATICS

Position Summary

The Director of Health Informatics plays a key role in supporting SMHC’s strategic initiatives by developing data strategies and applying advanced analytics to improve patient care, enhance service-delivery, and inform clinical and operational decision-making. This position will be responsible for the oversight of SMHC’s data positions as well as data requirements related to various Federal, State, Local & Agency reporting and/or grant projects.

Specific Educational/Experience Requirements

Graduate degree in the field of data science or other related fields of study, with a minimum of three years of progressive experience.

Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties:

·       Supervise data positions.

·       Create dashboards to showcase data associated with SMHC’s programs, grants, and strategic initiatives.

·       Develop predictive models to identify high-risk patients and forecast health outcomes.

·       Optimize operational workflows through data-informed analysis of patient flow, and resource utilization.

·       Monitor and improve quality of care by tracking performance metrics and identifying areas for improvement.

·       Evaluate SMHC programs and initiatives using statistical and analytical methods.

·       Collaborate and communicate with clinical and leadership teams to translate data insights into actionable strategies.

·       Performs other duties as assigned.         

Qualifications and Skills:

Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirements with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the primary functions of the job.

o   Master’s degree in the field of data science or related field of study.

o   Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience required.

o   SQL

o   Data Visualization Tools: Microsoft, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric.

o   Data Analysis Experience

o   Microsoft Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Power Automate, Power Apps, etc.).

o   Strong communication and presentation skills.

o   Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also functioning effectively as part of a team.

o   Capability to prioritize projects, date requests.

o   Strong interest in data and continuous learning. 

o   Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria in obtaining results. Exerts significant latitude in determining objectives of assignment. Takes calculated risks with consultation from the expert.

o   WorkS on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Constructs and may pursue alternative paths toward a solution. Problem/Task resolution timeframe: Inclusive of shorter timeframes, but typically twelve months or more to resolve.

o   Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer service/vendor contacts. Part of the team who represents the organization. Monitors activities and communicates information across the organization.

o   Assigns work activities, trains, coaches, counsels and mentors direct reports, and approves time off.

o   Requires a high degree of creativity and analytical thinking to address challenges around staying current with the newest tools and best practices in processing data so it can be readily available for leadership to make necessary decisions.

o   Decisions around best practices to display data for decision-making, judgments around data accuracy, making predictions about the future based on an established set of data from the past.
