Position: Director of Imaging Services- Radiology- Full Time

Definition: 

The Director of Imaging Services plays a crucial role in the delivery of high-quality healthcare services and contributes to the overall success of our healthcare facility. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and in cooperation with the Chairman of Radiology is responsible for the administrative and technical operations of imaging services throughout the health system.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

This role requires a combination of technical expertise in radiological procedures, strong managerial skills, and a focus on ensuring high-quality patient care. The Director of Imaging Services collaborates with other departments, physicians, healthcare professionals, patients and community partners to maintain effective communication and workflow.

Essential Functions:

  • Directs and coordinates the operations of the hospital’s Radiology services; coordinates operations in conjunction with designated physician chairperson to facilitate clinical services; coordinates services with medical staff and hospital divisions.
  • Develops and implements the strategic vision for the radiology department in alignment with the overall goals and objectives of the healthcare facility. Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes to drive continuous improvement.
  • Develops and implements the strategic vision for Kern Medical’s outpatient imaging center
  • Implements and monitors quality control, quality assurance and safety programs; establishes departmental goals and objectives, develops long range plans; prioritizes activities to ensure quality of services.
  • Monitors hospital compliance with applicable regulatory requirements; keeps current with new trends and procedures; insures timely input of patient changes into the hospital’s accounting system.
  • Develops and maintains policy and procedure manuals; establishes and maintains appropriate records and statistics; prepares budget and annual reports.
  • Interviews, selects, evaluates and supervises subordinate staff; oversees work schedules.
  • Provides ongoing education and training programs for radiology staff to ensure competency and compliance with standards. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Assures all equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Oversees contracts for services and supplies; coordinates purchasing functions; prepares reports and correspondence as necessary.
  • Establishes and maintains productive working relationships with other hospital divisions and medical staff; maintains liaisons with affiliated facilities, community hospitals and other local and state agencies and groups.

Other Functions:

  • Prepare other job-related tasks as required.

Employment Standards:

Graduation from accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in management or a science, and five (5) years of management experience in a health facility radiology department.

AND

Graduation from an accredited program in radiologic technology approved by the Council in Medical Education of the American Medical Association, certified by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists as a Registered Technologist and certification by the State of California, Department of Health Sciences, as a Radiologic Technologist.

OR

Nine (9) years supervisory or special procedures experience in a health facility radiology department.

AND

Graduation from an accredited program in a radiologic technology approved by the Council in Medical Education of the American Medical Association, certified by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists as a Registered Technologist and certification by the State of California, Department of Health Sciences, as a Radiologic Technologist.

Appointees not possessing the American Heart Association Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire must successfully complete appropriate training and qualify for the RQI Provider certification within 60 days of employment. As a continued condition of employment, employee must maintain RQI Provider certification and competency.

Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical.

Knowledge of:

Radiology, nuclear medicine, ultrasound and diagnostic imaging, including CT scan and MRI in a health care facility, human anatomy and physiology; occupational and safety precautions for radiographic work; state regulations regarding medical imaging, principles of supervision and efficient radiology operation; acute care hospital procedures.

Ability to:

Plan, organize and direct the work of others; communicate effectively and deal tactfully with patients and their family members, physicians and staff members; administer emergency first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

If position responsibilities require driving a vehicle owned, leased or rented by Kern Medical, then possession of a current valid California Driver’s license, a signed authorization for Release of Drivers Record Information and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.
