Distinguishing Features of the Class
The Director of Information Technology is responsible for organizing, directing, and coordinating the development, implementation, and evaluation of a computerized management information system. The incumbent designs a system to coordinate and monitor departmental operations in such areas as computer applications, operational problems, strategic planning, and programmatic functions. He/she analyzes and directs the organization to develop methods of procedures aimed to identify means for improving efficiency and effectiveness. Work involves the development, implementation and overseeing of computer application which includes systems analysis and design. A high degree of analytical judgment is required in analyzing and evaluating, finding and making recommendations, as well as a vast knowledge of information systems. Work is performed under supervision from higher-ranking administrative staff. Supervision is exercised over professional, technical and clerical support staff assigned

Designs, plans, organizes and directs the development, implementation and evaluation of a computerized management information system including databases and programmatic functions;
Develops and evaluates standards of performance and makes recommendations;
Plans, organizes and directs activities including constant review of ongoing projects and development of operating policies;
Confers with administrators, managers and higher-ranking personnel regarding computer applications, informal needs, service requirements, operational problems, strategic planning and changes in operating procedures;
Maintains professional growth development through seminars and workshops to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field;
Participates in meetings and prepares reports as required;
Performs related duties as required.

Administrative experience is defined as the responsible planning, management, and control functions of an organization or organizational unit including the development and/or approval of operating policy and procedures.
Supervisory experience is defined as responsible direction and control of subordinate employees. This involves the assignment of work, approval of work, training, evaluation and discipline of employees. The supervisory aspects must be an integral part of the job, not incidental or occasional.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated to meet full-time experience
