The Director of Investments provides strategic leadership for the firm's investment platform and serves as a trusted resource for advisors, clients and firm leadership. Partnering closely with the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), this position leads investment research, portfolio construction, portfolio management, trading, manager due diligence and ongoing investment strategy to support the firm's fiduciary responsibilities and client objectives. The Director of Investments evaluates market trends, portfolio risk and investment opportunities, develops actionable recommendations and collaborates with advisors to communicate investment strategies and market insights in a clear, practical manner. Success in this role requires exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills, along with the ability to manage complex priorities, drive continuous improvement, and build strong relationships across the firm. The Director of Investments also supports strategic investment initiatives, contributes to Investment Committee activities, and helps ensure investment decisions and client communications consistently meet fiduciary and regulatory standards.

Minimum Requirements 
  • CFA Charterholder, MBA in Finance from an accredited university with a strong finance program or Chartered Market Technician (CMT)
  • Five or more years of experience in investment research, portfolio management or discretionary investment management, preferably with an institutional investment manager or a registered investment advisor (RIA)
  • Demonstrated experience conducting investment research, evaluating investment managers and strategies and making portfolio recommendations based on sound analytical judgment
  • Hands-on experience executing portfolio trading, rebalancing, tax-loss harvesting and model portfolio implementation
  • Strong knowledge of portfolio construction, asset allocation, manager research and capital markets
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex investment concepts, portfolio strategies, and market conditions effectively to advisors, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and the ability to quickly learn and effectively utilize investment technology platforms
  • Experience using institutional investment research, portfolio analytics, and trading platforms such as Morningstar Direct, Bloomberg, FactSet, Orion, Advyzon, or similar systems
  • Experience supporting Investment Committee activities, developing investment policy or portfolio strategy, or contributing to investment commentary, market insights, or other thought leadership initiatives
Expectations
  • Leads ongoing research and due diligence on securities, managers, funds, ETFs, separately managed accounts (SMAs), alternative investments, and other investment strategies.
  • Monitors portfolio positioning, risk exposure and performance relative to benchmarks.
  • Executes portfolio trading activities, including rebalancing, tax-loss harvesting, model implementation, and other discretionary portfolio transactions across client and model portfolios.
  • Reviews institutional research and synthesizes findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Contributes to the development and continuous refinement of the firm's investment process, portfolio construction, asset allocation framework and manager selection criteria.
  • Oversees model portfolios to ensure consistent implementation across custodial platforms.
  • Monitors capital markets, macroeconomic trends, regulatory developments and industry conditions to assess potential impacts on client portfolios and the firm's investment strategies.
  • Evaluates investment managers, portfolio strategies, technology platforms, and analytical tools to enhance investment capabilities, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the firm's investment platform.
  • Serves as a trusted investment resource for advisors and participates in client meetings to provide investment expertise and support.
  • Communicates portfolio positioning, investment performance, and market conditions in a clear, practical terms.
  • Collaborates with advisors to develop and implement investment strategies aligned with clients' financial goals and risk tolerances.
  • Develops client-facing market commentary, market updates, educational content and presentation materials to support client engagement and advisor communications.
  • Builds and maintains client confidence through proactive and transparent communication in all market environments.
  • Partners with the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) on strategic investment initiatives, portfolio management priorities and Investment Committee activities.
  • Represents the investment function in firm strategy and client retention discussions.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities to improve investment processes, technology, reporting, and operational efficiency.
  • Provides guidance, mentorship and technical support to investment and operations team members to foster professional growth and operational excellence.
  • Helps ensure investment decisions, portfolio management practices, and client communications comply with fiduciary obligations, regulatory requirements and firm policies.
  • Performs other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.
