Position Information

Position Title Director of IT Project Management Position Summary

Responsible for launching physical and virtual project management capabilities throughout the college and leading a small team of project managers. Will assess, manage, and implement medium to large projects and/or feasibility studies on-time and within budget. Develops projects documents and plans including charter, scope, budget, schedule, risk register, communications, and project close (and possibly others). Capable of managing all aspects of project execution from requirements gathering through project close. This role will also be responsible for determining PMO capacity. Works with the CIO to develop and implement project governance process, metrics, and communications strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directs activities of the Project Management Office
  • Oversees and supports project managers
  • Defines project objectives, develops plans and monitors progress
  • Responsible for continuity of process flow and action items from project planning meetings
  • Manages changes to project plan, schedule, cost and scope
  • Identifies critical path decisions and communicates to project stakeholders
  • Provides guidance and support to project team and virtual project managers
  • Builds and maintains relationships with campus and AUCC partners
  • Provides project management coordination and training
  • Collaborates with project team members in making strategic decisions when appropriate

DIMENSIONS AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has supervisory responsibilities for one or more postions in the department. This does not include work study students.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience required, however a minimum of four (4) years of direct project management and leadership experience required. Must have experience with project management software tools, preferably in higher education. Must be able to adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions and handle multiple. Must have the ability to influence and negotiate effectively. The ability to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines is essential.

Must have knowledge of project management methodology and familiarity with major project management approaches and tools. Possess excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills are required). Must possess strong attention to detail and follow up skills. Must possess strong customer service skills, phone and e-mail etiquette.

Ability to conduct extensive research for the purpose of problem solving and situation analysis. Must have intermediate skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and be internet savvy. Proficient with Microsoft Project, Smartsheet and other project management applications and programs associated with the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of in IT project management preferred.
  • Familiarity with agile project management techniques and experience developing project portfolios preferred.
  • Experience with project management software tools, preferably in higher education.

Certifications, Licenses, Restrictions

Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) Preferred
