Job Title: Director of Loan Accounting

Location: On-site St. Paul, Minnesota

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

Company: FarmOp Capital

Company Overview

FarmOp Capital, founded in 2017, is a leader in providing innovative working capital solutions for American farmers. Our unique production-based lending approach offers high advance-rate operating loans that enhance marketing flexibility and purchasing power for U.S. growers. Headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota, we address a significant gap in agricultural lending by leveraging advanced technology and outcome-based lending strategies. In addition to its agricultural operating loans, FarmOp Capital extends capital to farmers and grain elevators to finance the purchase and refinance of real estate, equipment, grain, and cattle.

Job Summary

The Director of Loan Accounting leads the team responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all loan servicing transaction records at FarmOp Capital. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this leader owns the full lifecycle of loan funds—from initial disbursement through final collection and investor transition—and is accountable for the accuracy and timeliness of all related financial reporting. This role builds, mentors, and manages a team of loan accounting professionals while serving as the senior point of accountability for banking relationships, disbursement processes, and payment application standards. The ideal candidate pairs deep technical loan accounting expertise with proven people leadership, driving both team development and the scalable processes needed to support FarmOp's growing agricultural lending portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage, mentor, and develop junior and mid-level loan accounting staff, providing training, performance feedback, and career growth support.
  • Establish and enforce quality control standards, review procedures, and sign-off protocols to ensure team output meets accuracy and timeliness requirements.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex transaction issues, account discrepancies, and non-routine inquiries.
  • Build team capacity and coverage models to support the department through periods of growth and increased transaction volume.

Loan Accounting Oversight

  • Own the accuracy and integrity of the full-cycle cash management process, including AP/AR for all originated loans and disbursements via check, ACH, and wire, ensuring alignment with approved operating budgets.
  • Establish and oversee payment application standards for proceeds from grain sales, hedging, insurance claims, and government subsidies, ensuring consistent application of company policy across the team.
  • Direct bank reconciliation processes and lead month-end close, including final review and approval of performance and investor reporting prior to distribution.
  • Ensure timely, accurate delivery of all internal and external reporting, holding the team accountable to reporting calendars and investor commitments.

Asset Management & Servicing Leadership

  • Ensure loan-related data across all systems is accurate, complete, and maintained as the organization's single source of truth, with defined controls to prevent and catch errors.
  • Oversee the timely and accurate assignment or transition of closed loan assets to investors and financing partners, ensuring full compliance with contractual terms.
  • Provide senior-level support for servicing escalations, asset management milestones, and portfolio health to keep assets in good standing.
  • Maintain oversight of customer support activities related to loan servicing, ensuring service quality reflects FarmOp standards.

Banking & Operational Leadership

  • Serve as a senior point of contact for banking partners, overseeing disbursement operations and ensuring strong banking relationships.
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable procedures for loan processing and reporting to support company growth while maintaining compliance and efficiency.
  • Partner with technical and IT teams to evaluate, implement, and optimize loan management systems and workflow tools.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data-informed insights, recommending changes to processes, policies, and technology.
  • Represent loan accounting in cross-functional discussions, communicating loan status, resolving bottlenecks, and leading ad hoc finance projects.

Qualifications Required

  • 8+ years of experience in loan operations, agricultural real estate and operating lending, or financial services, including 2+ years in a supervisory or team lead capacity.
  • Strong working knowledge of loan documentation, loan accounting principles and best practices, banking protocols and transaction processing,
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team, with strong judgment in reviewing others' work.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with loan management systems; experience evaluating or implementing system improvements a plus.

Preferred:
