EMPLOYMENT LEVEL: ADMINISTRATIVE

SALARY RANGE: $85,000 - $95,000 (Depending upon depth of qualifications)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Superintendent

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Director of Maintenance is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the school district''s facilities and maintenance operations. This includes overseeing and managing all maintenance, custodial and groundskeeping staff and capital project activities in the District as directed by the Superintendent to ensure a safe, clean, and effective learning environment. ____

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in maintenance, grounds and/or custodial service strongly preferred.
  • Prior management experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position may require occasional evening or weekend work.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Physical ability to conduct site inspections and oversee maintenance activities.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with staff members, administrators, Board of Directors
  • Knowledge of maintenance and custodial requirements for multi-use facilities.
  • Skill in providing leadership in facilities management.
  • Skill in communicating facilities requirements and outcomes to staff, the Board of Directors, and community groups.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to construct, implement, and monitor timelines and meet deadlines on projects and reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leadership and Management:

  • Lead, supervise, and evaluate the performance of the facilities, maintenance, and custodial staff.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals, objectives, and work standards.
  • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the facilities department.

Facility Maintenance and Operations:

  • Oversee routine and preventive maintenance programs for all district buildings and grounds.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding building safety, health, and environmental standards.
  • Coordinate and manage all maintenance and repair work, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and ensure timely response to work orders.

Budgeting and Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the facilities and maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Identify and apply for grants and other funding opportunities to support facilities projects.

Project Management:

  • Plan and oversee capital improvement projects, including new construction, renovations, and major repairs.
  • Develop project specifications, solicit bids, and manage contracts with external vendors and contractors.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Develop and implement safety protocols and emergency response plans for facilities and maintenance operations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.

Energy and Sustainability:

  • Develop and implement energy conservation and sustainability initiatives.
  • Monitor and manage the district''s energy consumption and utility costs.
  • Promote environmentally responsible practices throughout the district.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for facilities-related issues and inquiries.
  • Communicate effectively with district administration, staff, parents, and community members regarding facilities matters.
  • Provide regular updates to the superintendent and school board on facilities and maintenance activities.

School Safety and Emergency Response:

  • Coordinate and manage response to facilities-related emergencies, including natural disasters, system failures, and other critical incidents.
  • Develop and maintain emergency preparedness plans for all district facilities.
