Position Summary:

The Director of Managed Care Contracting and Payer Relations is responsible for managing and optimizing a portfolio of extraordinarily complex managed care contracts that are critical to the financial and operational performance of Hartford HealthCare. The Director leads negotiations with payers ensuring that reimbursement structures, contract language, and operational provisions are designed to maximize financial performance while remaining administratively executable across the system. The Director will cultivate and maintain strong payer relationships, utilizing these partnerships to resolve complex issues, improve operational effectiveness, and advance long-term strategic initiatives.

Key Accountabilities:

• Negotiate and manage complex managed care agreements across hospitals, physicians, ancillary services and specialized service lines, including transplant and behavioral health programs

• Ensure reimbursement methodologies, contract terms, and language optimize financial performance

• Develops, interprets, negotiates, and remediates complex contract language to support organizational objectives, ensures regulatory compliance, and minimize contractual risk

• Collaborate with stakeholders and Contract Analytics teams to resolve complex contracting matters and ensure accurate financial analysis,

• Lead the development and negotiation of innovative reimbursement structures across fee-for-service and value-based care models, including capitation, bundled payments, shared savings, and risk-based arrangements.

• Align contracting strategy with system-wide objectives by designing and executing reimbursement, contract, and value-based care initiatives

• Engage stakeholders across finance, legal, revenue cycle and operations to gather input and secure alignment with contracting strategies

• Lead contract implementation and termination preparedness efforts across the system, ensuring accurate operationalization of contract terms, proactive transition planning, and minimal disruption to patients, providers, and business operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in hospital administration or related field

• Ten plus years in commercial and Medicare Advantage contracting with comprehensive knowledge of hospital, physician, and ancillary contracting as well as value-based contracting and management.

• Comprehensive knowledge of hospital, physician, and ancillary reimbursement methodologies

• Experience in negotiating alternative payment models including episodes of care/bundles

• Expert knowledge of healthcare coding, managed care legal principles and contract language

• Deep expertise across a broad range of reimbursement models, including fee-for-service and value-based arrangements such as percent-of-charge, DRG-based payment, case rates, capitation, bundled payments, shared savings, and shared risk programs

• Ability to leverage contract analytics to drive strategy and maximize contract yield

• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly

• Strong project management and organizational abilities

• Ability to develop staff and build a high performing team

• Proven ability to lead across cross-functional stakeholders in a large, matrixed healthcare environment
