Director of Nursing (DON) – Skilled Nursing / Long-Term Care

Location: Miller, South Dakota

Compensation: $40.00 – $62.00/hour (based on experience)
Sign-On Bonus: Up to $25,000

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead clinical operations at a 50-bed skilled nursing and long-term care facility in Miller, SD. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing a team of 25+ nursing professionals while ensuring the highest standards of resident care, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the nursing department
  • Ensure continuous survey readiness and compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Oversee resident assessments, individualized care plans, and clinical outcomes
  • Lead staffing, scheduling, recruitment, and performance management
  • Manage departmental budget and resource allocation
  • Drive quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives
  • Oversee EMR utilization, documentation accuracy, and reporting
  • Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, residents, and families
  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and resident-centered care

Qualifications

  • Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum 5 years of RN experience
  • Prior experience as a Director of Nursing in long-term care/skilled nursing required
  • BLS/CPR certification
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Preferred Experience

  • Proven success with state/federal survey processes and Plans of Correction (POC)
  • Strong leadership, team development, and communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of LTC regulations and compliance standards
