Director of Operations

Location: Brooklyn, NY
Schedule: Full-Time | In-Office
Compensation: $175K–$200K+ DOE

About the Role

A well-established food distribution and retail company is seeking a highly experienced Director of Operations to oversee and optimize all day-to-day business operations. This is a true executive leadership role for someone who can run the organization from the ground up, ensuring every department operates efficiently while driving accountability, process improvement, and continued growth.

The company operates two retail locations, one wholesale division, and one warehouse, serving grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, schools, commercial kitchens, and other institutional customers.

The ideal candidate is a proven operations executive with experience leading large teams, implementing systems, improving efficiency, and managing multiple departments in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all daily operations across multiple departments and business divisions.
• Lead and manage department heads while ensuring alignment across the organization.
• Supervise approximately 50 employees across customer service, packing, warehouse operations, billing, collections, finance, technology, ingredients, menu management, and other operational departments.
• Develop and implement systems, processes, and KPIs to improve productivity and accountability.
• Work closely with ownership to execute strategic initiatives and support continued growth.
• Identify operational bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve efficiency.
• Oversee staffing, workflow management, and interdepartmental communication.
• Ensure exceptional customer service and operational excellence throughout the organization.
• Monitor budgets, operating costs, and overall business performance.
• Foster a culture of leadership, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of senior operations leadership experience required.
• Proven experience overseeing multiple departments and managing large teams.
• Strong background in operations, process improvement, and organizational leadership.
• Experience in food distribution, wholesale, retail, manufacturing, logistics, or a similar operational environment is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to build systems, improve workflows, and lead organizational growth.
• Excellent leadership, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Hands-on executive who is equally comfortable developing strategy and executing daily operations.
