JOB TITLE: Director of Operations
LOCATION: Capewell Aerial Systems - South Windsor, CT
REPORTS TO: President & General Manager
POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Operations is responsible and accountable for effective operating processes and procedures across the manufacturing plant and will oversee the day-to-day activities of the facility to ensure the organization is managed and performing efficiently and effectively. The Director of Operations will supervise several managers, production supervisors, and leads, while reporting directly to the President. They will also be responsible for growth and advancement of existing organizational processes and procedures to enhance internal capacity and productivity.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Defining, implementing, and revising operational policies and guidelines to improve day-to-day operations.
- Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business and operational procedures.
- Ensures work environments are adequate, safe, compliant, and professional.
- Oversees manufacturing and conducts detailed coordination with purchasing and sales departments, to ensure company leadership goals are being met.
- Maintains and supports AS-9100 Quality Management System.
- Plans, directs, controls, implements, evaluates, monitors, and forecasts budgets and cost of sales in each division to achieve financial objectives.
- Establishes quantitative and qualitative metrics, guidelines, and standards by which the company’s efficiency and effectiveness can be evaluated; identifies opportunities for improvement.
- Communicates and explains new directives, policies, or procedures to managers; for major changes, meets with entire operations staff to explain changes, answer questions, and maintain morale.
- Improves customer service and job satisfaction through policy and procedural changes.
- Leads coordination and integration of efforts among operations, purchasing, planning/production, engineering, product SMEs, and the customer service division to produce smoother workflow and more cost-effective business processes.
- Projects a positive image of the organization to employees, customers, industry, and community.
- Support/Mentor mid-level manufacturing management to achieve operational success.
- Tracks facility revenue margins and conducts budget reviews to maximize profits while sustaining the workforce.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area.
- Owns employee relations and team dynamics, addressing concerns directly and driving issues to resolution.
- Work cooperatively with other employees to meet department and company goals.
- This position requires personal protective equipment on the shop floor where safety glasses and composite toe safety shoes are required by all.
OTHER DUTIES: Perform additional duties as directed by supervisors or management to support departmental and organizational objectives.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for all direct reports, ensuring timely, constructive feedback and alignment with organizational goals. Applies progressive discipline promptly and consistently, manages performance on a regular basis, and addresses issues as they arise.
- Engage with team members regularly to ensure proactive conflict resolution, development, and alignment on tasks and priorities.
- Assist in the company’s goal-setting process by developing department goals and working with team members to assign individual goals
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering or related field required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Extensive and diversified background with at least 10 years of related experience.
- Excellent leadership and organizational abilities.
- Strong aerospace machining management experience required.
- Background experience in ERP system(s) is mandatory; understanding how to navigate and use to maximum advantage is critical.
- Detailed knowledge of manufacturing regulations and operational guidelines.
- Thorough understanding of operational practices, theories, and policies involved in manufacturing, with in-depth knowledge of business and finance.
- Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Superior managerial and leadership skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OFFICE:This position operates in a typical office environment and requires the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements may include:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, handling documents, and using office equipment.
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Position will work primarily in an office environment with a low noise level but may occasionally have exposure to the production floor with moderate to excessive noise.
- This is a full-time, onsite position.
- The work schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday 7:30AM – 5PM and every other Friday, 7:30AM – 4PM, with a 30-minute lunch break.
COMPENSATION: The hiring range for this position is $150k-$180k. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
