NBTP is seeking a Director of Operations for the National Blood Testing Partners Donor Testing Laboratory in Stone Mountain, GA. The laboratory operates 24/7 and processes approximately 1.2 million donor samples annually. This position reports directly to the CEO and supports reliable, compliant, and efficient donor testing operations through cross-functional coordination, performance monitoring, and executive-level operational reporting.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the CEO and operational leadership to monitor overall operational performance, risks, and dependencies affecting donor testing operations.
  • Coordinate operational activities across departments supporting donor testing, including Quality, IT/LIS, Facilities, Finance, and other operational partners, to ensure consistent execution and timely issue resolution.
  • Establish and maintain integrated operational reporting, including KPIs, trend analysis, and executive-level summaries.
  • Identify operational risks and constraints, escalate issues appropriately, and support timely corrective actions through cross-functional follow-up.
  • Support process improvement initiatives to strengthen end-to-end operational performance, reduce rework, and improve consistency.
  • Support regulatory readiness through coordination of cross-functional deliverables, documentation readiness, and operational follow-through.
  • Collaborate with Facilities leadership to ensure laboratory usage, access, and operational activities support compliance requirements and operational needs.
  • Collaborate with IT/LIS leadership to ensure systems support operational workflows and that changes are communicated and implemented with operational impact considered.
  • Support planning for volume changes, staffing impacts, system enhancements, and operational continuity needs through data analysis and cross-functional coordination.
  • Maintain confidentiality of donor, employee, financial, and proprietary information at all times.

 

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of high-volume clinical or donor testing laboratory operations
  • Strong understanding of integrated, multi-department operational workflows
  • Strong working knowledge of blood testing regulations and regulatory review processes, including FDA inspections and accreditation reviews
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations impacting laboratory operations
  • Ability to analyze operational, quality, and performance data
  • Ability to translate complex operational and regulatory information into clear executive-level reporting
  • Proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS)
  • Proficiency with standard business software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to evaluate and modify operational processes to improve effectiveness and consistency
  • Ability to communicate clearly, problem solve, and exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor ID, employee, financial, and proprietary information

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Operations Management, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of management or leadership experience
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive laboratory or healthcare operations experience
  • Experience working in regulated, high-volume operational environments

 

Desired:

  • Experience in blood bank, immunohematology, reference laboratory, or donor testing environments
  • Experience supporting business continuity or disaster recovery planning in a regulated operational environment
  • Professional certification related to operations, laboratory management, or process improvement

 

Other Relevant Information:

Will be required to comply with governmental regulations and strictly observe privacy and security related policies, procedures and practices to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of medical and other sensitive information pertaining to donors, patients, research subjects, and staff.  Will be required to enter areas where other individuals work with human blood; potential may exist for unanticipated exposure to bloodborne pathogens by splash or spill.
