Description of Job

The Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) is seeking an innovative and collaborative leader to serve as Director of Outreach. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, this executive leadership position provides strategic direction and operational oversight for CSDBs statewide Outreach and Early Education Programs.

The Director of Outreach leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of services supporting children who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Blind, Visually Impaired, or DeafBlind throughout Colorado. This position works collaboratively with school districts, BOCES, charter schools, families, community partners, and state agencies to ensure equitable access to high-quality educational services.

As a member of CSDBs executive leadership team, the Director serves as a strategic visionary and systems leader responsible for aligning people, programs, resources, and organizational priorities while fostering innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties

  • Provide executive leadership for CSDBs statewide Outreach and Early Education Programs.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives aligned with CSDBs mission and organizational priorities.
  • Lead, supervise, mentor, and evaluate Outreach administrators and staff.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and resources.
  • Foster collaborative partnerships with school districts, BOCES, state agencies, families, and community organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and grant requirements.
  • Utilize data to evaluate program effectiveness and guide continuous improvement.
  • Promote inclusive leadership, organizational culture, and workforce development.
  • Support statewide professional development and technical assistance.
  • Represent CSDB at local, state, and national meetings.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Required

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Educational Leadership, Special Education, Public Administration, Human Services, or a closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in education, special education, outreach services, or program administration.
  • Experience supervising professional staff.
  • Experience managing budgets, strategic initiatives, or organizational operations.

Preferred

  • Masters degree or higher.
  • Colorado Principal, Administrator, or Director License.
  • Experience working with Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Blind, Visually Impaired, or DeafBlind populations.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and special education law.
  • Experience working with statewide educational systems or public agencies.
  • Fluency in or working knowledge of American Sign Language.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Colorado Driver License.
  • Periodic statewide travel required.
  • Evening and weekend work may occasionally be required.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all State of Colorado pre-employment requirements.

Special Qualifications

The position of American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor is assigned to work with students, staff and others who are Deaf/hard-of-hearing and requires proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the Intermediate skill level.

The position of American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor is assigned to work with students, staff and others who are Deaf/hard-of-hearing and requires proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the Intermediate skill level, as demonstrated through an appropriate assessment tool and according to school policy/procedures.
