    Director, Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

    Direct Hire,
    Level 1 Trauma Medical Center

    Position Summary
    The Director of the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the department. This leader is responsible for ensuring safe, high-quality patient care while overseeing staffing, budgeting, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and employee engagement. The Director partners with physicians and interdisciplinary leaders to achieve organizational goals and maintain excellence in patient outcomes.

    Essential Responsibilities

    ·         Provide 24-hour operational and clinical oversight of the Progressive Care Unit.

    ·         Develop departmental goals aligned with organizational objectives.

    ·         Ensure safe staffing, scheduling, and productivity.

    ·         Monitor patient outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives.

    ·         Maintain compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and organizational standards.

    ·         Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.

    ·         Oversee department budgets, resource utilization, and capital equipment planning.

    ·         Promote a culture of patient safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

    ·         Serve as a clinical resource and assist with patient care when necessary.

    ·         Develop policies, procedures, and evidence-based practice standards.

    Leadership & Team Development

    ·         Recruit, hire, onboard, mentor, and retain high-performing staff.

    ·         Conduct performance evaluations and coaching.

    ·         Support employee engagement, recognition, and professional development.

    ·         Ensure staff complete required education and competencies.

    ·         Lead department meetings and communicate organizational initiatives.

    Quality & Regulatory Compliance

    ·         Monitor quality indicators and patient satisfaction metrics.

    ·         Participate in accreditation surveys and regulatory readiness.

    ·         Ensure compliance with HIPAA, infection prevention, safety, and labor regulations.

    ·         Investigate incidents and implement corrective action plans.

    Qualifications

    ·         Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; MSN preferred.

    ·         Minimum three years of acute care nursing experience.

    ·         Minimum two years of progressive leadership experience.

    ·         Current Registered Nurse license in the state of employment.

    ·         BLS and ACLS required; specialty certification preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    ·         Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, budgeting, and analytical skills.

    ·         Knowledge of regulatory requirements and evidence-based nursing practice.

    ·         Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.

    Physical Requirements

    ·         Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift as required in a clinical environment.

    ·         May be exposed to infectious diseases and other healthcare-related hazards; appropriate PPE is required.
