    Description

Director of Pharmacy & Clinical Nutrition
Full Time | Greater Boston Area | Senior Leadership

    The Opportunity
This is a department-head role at a large, mission-driven acute care medical center in the Greater Boston area — one with more than a century of institutional history and a published, concrete vision for what urban health equity can look like by 2030. The Director of Pharmacy & Clinical Nutrition holds full operational and strategic ownership of the pharmacy department: clinical services, regulatory compliance, budget authority, residency program oversight, and system-level committee representation. You report directly to the Executive Director of Acute Care & Ambulatory Pharmacy and carry a meaningful seat at the table across both local and system-level Pharmacy & Therapeutics committees.
If you are a pharmacy leader who wants more than operational management — who wants to shape formulary, drive service line innovation, develop the next generation of pharmacists through a PGY2 residency program, and do it inside an organization where the mission is woven into every decision — this role is worth a conversation.

    The Role
You will oversee all aspects of the Department of Pharmacy, including planning, budgeting, fiscal reporting, clinical services, research, regulatory compliance, and policy development. Specific responsibilities include:
    - Full department leadership: hiring, performance management, professional development, and succession planning
    - Regulatory compliance across Massachusetts DPH, Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy, USP Chapters, Joint Commission, FDA, DEA, HRSA, and related bodies
    - Strategic and operational oversight of post-graduate pharmacy programs including PGY2 residency in Pharmacy Administration
    - Formulary evaluation and medication management in collaboration with medical staff and service chiefs
    - Serve as Controlled Substances Registrant and subject matter expert across departments
    - Contract review and approval for pharmacy services, automation, and vendor relationships
    - Multidisciplinary committee participation at both local and system levels
    - Service line innovation and provider collaboration to continually evolve department capabilities

    What You Bring
    **Required:**
    - PharmD from an accredited U.S. pharmacy school
    - Minimum five years of supervisory experience within a pharmacy department
    - 2–3 years as an Assistant Director in a pharmacy department at an organization with a residency program up to PGY2 in Pharmacy Administration
    - Current Massachusetts pharmacy license — or the ability to obtain one by your hire date (MA licensure can typically be arranged within approximately 6–12 weeks for eligible candidates)

    **Preferred:**
    - MS, MBA, MHA, MPH, or equivalent advanced degree
    - Demonstrated budget management experience
    - Experience developing and implementing inventory control systems
    - Comfort presenting on clinical, operational, educational, research, and financial topics
    - Fluency with national medication trends and their downstream impact on patient care and hospital operations

    What We Offer
    - Compensation is competitive and negotiable based on experience
    - Full medical, dental, and vision coverage
    - Life insurance and retirement benefits
    - Paid time off
    - An organization where equity and mission are structural, not aspirational

    Why the Greater Boston Area
The region puts you inside one of the world's densest academic medicine ecosystems — research hospitals, teaching institutions, and pharmacy schools within a short radius, which matters when you are building a residency program and staying sharp on national trends. Beyond the professional environment, the area offers deep access to New England's coastline, mountains, and college towns, with a genuine urban core that has walkable neighborhoods, a serious food and arts scene, and reliable transit. For pharmacy leaders who want to be at the center of the field professionally and still live somewhere with texture, this region consistently delivers.

    About the Organization
This is a large acute care safety-net medical center with a long-standing commitment to providing exceptional care regardless of a patient's ability to pay. The organization operates clinical pharmacy services at both campus and system levels, supports post-graduate pharmacy education through a PGY2 residency program, and is actively pursuing an ambitious public health vision for the communities it serves. The pharmacy department sits at the center of clinical operations and carries real institutional weight.
