Director of Pharmacy

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction and guidance of the Chief Medical Officer, the Director of Pharmacy is responsible for all operations of the Pharmacy department in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations as they pertain to the practice of pharmacy. The Director of Pharmacy ensures that all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements are met, assumes a leadership role in planning and delivering patient care, and ensures the pharmacy department upholds the standard operating procedures of Cooperative Health.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develops and supervises all aspects of the Cooperative Health pharmacy department in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Develops and updates pharmacy policy and procedure.
• Ensures the efficient operation of the pharmacy within established guidelines.
• Serves as the direct supervisor for all pharmacists; conducts performance reviews, recommends merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
• Reviews, negotiates, and implements all pharmacy contracts and updates in conjunction with the CMO.
• Coordinates monthly financial reporting and analysis.
• Participates in the CQI committee and initiatives.
• Coordinates with clinical directors to implement and lead new clinical initiatives in the organization and in the pharmacy department.
• Ensures compliance of the 340B drug program including:
• Acts as the liaison between administration, pharmacy staff, pharmacy vendors, and third-party administrators for contract pharmacy to ensure 340B program integrity.
• Develops and modifies policy and procedure in accordance with program requirements.
• Provides ongoing 340B training for staff.
• Attends 340B trainings and monitors for updates in program requirements.
• Responsible for recertification and registration on the OPA database in conjunction with the CMO and serves as the primary contact for the 340B OPAIS.
• Performs audits and compliance assessments internally and coordinates external compliance assessments.
• Regularly monitors 340B purchasing activity and compliance with established protocols.
• Other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES

• FQHC experience preferred; demonstrated proficiency and comfort with technology including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), database management, webinar systems, and HTML email systems.
• Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex activities simultaneously.
• Experience supervising and leading diverse employees and managing complex programs.
• Ability to analyze and report clinical outcomes and participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
• Ability to understand and respond effectively and with sensitivity.
• Self-motivated to remain current with all aspects of community health center practices and policies.
• Familiarity with the development and implementation of training programs for healthcare providers.
• Experience working with diverse communities to address healthcare needs.
• Professional communication and public speaking skills; ability to interact with established networks of healthcare professionals at the local, regional, and national level.
• Excellent written communication skills including demonstrated competency in preparation of correspondence and reports.
• Proven ability to work independently while remaining an effective team member.
• Must possess initiative, flexibility, and strong leadership skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy required.
• Current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Pharmacist in the state of South Carolina.
• 5 years of pharmacy experience, including management experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in the 340B field.
• Familiarity with pharmacy software systems and operations; basic word processing and computer skills required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and squat for extended periods throughout the day.
