Position Summary
The Director of Philanthropy is a senior leadership team member responsible for leading all fundraising and philanthropic engagement efforts for Judi’s House and JAG Institute. Working closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and Fundraising and Development Committee, the Director develops and implements a comprehensive fundraising strategy that advances the organization’s mission and builds a sustainable, diversified funding base. This role combines strategic leadership with frontline fundraising and oversight of all philanthropic activities, including major and planned gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation partnerships, donor stewardship, and fundraising events. The Director of Philanthropy fosters a culture of philanthropy across the organization, manages key donor relationships, and strengthens the fundraising infrastructure needed to support future growth and impact.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
- Lead efforts to raise funds and awareness to support the organization’s three core strategic initiatives: Direct Service, Evaluation and Research, and Training and Education.
- Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive fundraising strategy designed to meet annual and long-term financial viability and stability goals and objectives.
- Work with the CEO and Board or Directors on fundraising priorities and donor relations.
- Serve on the Judi’s House Leadership Team, contributing to organizational strategy, goal setting, financial oversight, and advancement of the mission.
- Keep abreast of nonprofit fundraising trends and developments.
Finance and Reporting
- Develop and manage the annual revenue budget, maintain appropriate financial controls, and ensure fundraising records are regularly reconciled with the Finance team.
- Set, track and achieve annual revenue goals across major gifts, grants, annual fund, and events.
- Analyze fundraising performance, optimize strategies, and provide the Leadership Team and Board or Directors with regular forecasts and reports on solicitation activity and revenue performance against budget.
- Present to the Board of Directors at quarterly meetings and serve on relevant board committees.
Management
- Effectively select, manage, coach, and assess the performance of development staff to foster a dynamic and engaged team that consistently meets or exceeds fundraising goals.
- Facilitate and coordinate the Fundraising and Development Committee with the committee chair, including preparing agendas/meeting materials, participating in meetings, and following up on next steps.
- Guide and maintain compliance with gift acceptance policies and relevant regulations.
Fundraising
- Lead the development team in implementing identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities that strengthen long-term relationships with current and new donors.
- Personally manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, developing individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies; conduct regular donor visits and communications and track moves-management activity in the CRM.
- Partner with the CEO and Board Chair to support Board members in achieving their annual fundraising and donor-engagement goals.
- Represent the organization at donor events, community functions, and public engagements.
- Oversee the planning, budgeting, and execution of all fundraising events, including solicitation of in-kind donations and sponsorships.
- Support communication team with the design and implementation of donor-facing communications.
- Oversee development operations, including donor cultivation, stewardship and recognition processes, CRM data integrity, and timely fundraising reports and dashboards.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Model and promote Judi’s House values throughout all work.
- Collaborate across teams to advance the mission and vision of the organization.
- Attend organizational meetings, events, and activities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Duties
Supervise and manage all Development team staff.
Qualifications
Education and Experience required
- Minimum of eight years of experience in nonprofit fundraising.
- Minimum of five years of major-gifts fundraising experience, with demonstrated success cultivating and soliciting high-net-worth donors, securing six-figure gifts, and obtaining corporate and foundation grants.
- Minimum of two years managing a team and serving in a leadership capacity.

- Excellent communicator with ease in connecting with board members, major donors, corporate leaders, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
- Outstanding listener who can share Judi's House's story with authenticity, respect, and compassion.
- Demonstrates the highest level of integrity and discretion in managing donor relationships and confidential information.
- Experience managing a CRM and using data to inform fundraising strategy; Raiser's Edge experience preferred.

Work and Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
- Must possess a valid driver license and at least the state-required minimum level of automobile insurance, clear DMV driving record and ability to provide own transportation.
Work Environment/Schedule
This position is primarily onsite and is eligible for remote work up to one day per week. When working onsite, employees are closely connected to the mission in a bright, welcoming facility where Judi’s House hosts many of its programs and collaborates as a supportive team.
