Position Overview:


The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for advancing the comprehensive fundraising program, with a strategic focus on the Neurosciences service line for CPMC. This role prioritizes the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors, with particular emphasis on securing principal and major gifts, planned gifts, and annual contributions in support of neurosciences initiatives and broader organizational priorities.


The Director supports the Executive in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of philanthropic programs and initiatives. In partnership with executive leadership, the Director develops and executes philanthropy strategies that are fully aligned with the mission, values, and strategic goals of Sutter Health, with a concentrated effort to elevate and expand philanthropic investment in neurosciences care, research, technology, and innovation.


Serving as a key liaison to Senior Management, Medical Staff, and Sutter Health system leadership, the Director ensures strong collaboration and seamless integration between philanthropy and clinical priorities—particularly within the neurosciences service line. The role supports alignment between operational strategies, physician leadership, programmatic growth, and available resources to maximize philanthropic outcomes.


Externally, the Director represents Sutter Health throughout the community, fostering meaningful relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners. The Director ensures that the Foundation’s mission and impact are clearly communicated and well understood. As a community ambassador and strategic connector, the Director serves as a catalyst for collaboration, positioning the Foundation as a vital resource dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the communities it serves, especially through excellence and innovation in neurosciences care.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's: Business Administration, Healthcare or related field


TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

12 years of recent relevant experience


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Comprehensive knowledge of all fundraising approaches, with special expertise and understanding of capital campaigns, principal and major gifts, and planned giving.


Demonstrated familiarity with cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual and institutional prospects and donors.


Experience developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), Corporate Partners, and Physician Leaders.


Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and expertise in strategic planning, hospital fundraising, donor acquisition, and donor and stakeholder engagement.


Verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey concepts and communicate information or issues in a manner that is readily understood by management and employees.


Demonstrates credible leadership presence, with the ability to respond to questions with logic, clarity, calmness, and authority; and the ability to motivate and engage others.


Delegates effectively, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with changing business priorities.

Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs.
