Director of Product Marketing

Job Summary & Responsibilities

This role leads global field marketing for Onto Innovation’s inspection portfolio across front-end, specialty devices, and advanced wafer/panel-level packaging. The position sits at the critical intersection of customer engagement, product strategy, and revenue growth, ensuring strong alignment between market needs, product direction, and ecosystem dynamics at our most strategic accounts.

The leader will drive deep engagement with top-tier customers and partners to surface unmet needs, anticipate technology inflections, and translate field intelligence into actionable product and investment strategies. Success in this role will directly influence Onto’s share gains in optical inspection, particularly in high-growth segments such as advanced packaging, heterogeneous integration, and AI-driven device scaling.

Core Responsibilities:

Field Marketing Leadership (Inspection Portfolio)

• Own global field marketing strategy across Onto’s inspection solutions spanning:
• Front-end wafer inspection (defect, process control, OCD/films adjacencies)
• Specialty and power device applications
• Advanced packaging (wafer-level, panel-level, heterogeneous integration)
• Serve as the voice of the customer across major accounts, including top IDMs, foundries, and OSATs.
• Develop a structured field intelligence engine:
• Competitive positioning (KLA, AMAT, emerging regional players)
• Customer roadmaps (nodes, packaging transitions, yield challenges)
• Ecosystem shifts (materials, substrates, litho/etch dependencies)
• Translate insights into clear recommendations on:
• Where to invest (technology, applications, capacity)
• Where to deprioritize or exit
• Major Account & Ecosystem Focus
• Partner closely with Customer Success, Sales, and BU leaders to drive account-specific strategies for share gain.
• Lead preparation and messaging for TRMs / ERMs with top customers:
• Align technical differentiation with customer yield and CoO objectives
• Position Onto solutions within broader process flows (vs point tool selling)
• Identify and develop multi-product value propositions across inspection, metrology, and process control.
• Drive tighter integration across the ecosystem:
• Materials suppliers, equipment adjacencies, and packaging flows
• Ensure Onto’s inspection capabilities are positioned as enabling—not just monitoring—process outcomes
• Key Deliverables of the Field Marketing Organization
• Defined and validated new use cases tied to measurable customer value (yield improvement, CoO reduction, cycle time)
• Clear competitive battlecards and differentiation frameworks for field teams
• Structured account playbooks for Top 10–15 customers
• High-impact TRM/ERM content aligned to customer roadmaps and decision cycles
• Input into product roadmaps reflecting field-driven priorities
• Market sizing and segmentation models by application (front-end, specialty, packaging)
• Cross-functional alignment between BU, Sales, and Service on growth priorities
• Product Marketing – All-Surface Inspection Portfolio
• Onto Innovation’s all-surface inspection portfolio (edge and backside inspection) plays a critical and expanding role across wafer manufacturing and advanced packaging.
• Scope
• Lead product marketing for:
• Wafer edge inspection (defectivity, exclusion zone optimization)
• Backside inspection (contamination, particles, defects impacting yield/reliability)
• Applications spanning:
• Bare wafer production and incoming quality control (OQA)
• Front-end yield management
• Backside-driven yield losses in advanced packaging flows
• Responsibilities
• Define and execute a 5-year growth strategy for all-surface inspection:
• Expand penetration in wafer fabs and substrate ecosystems
• Capture emerging packaging use cases (e.g., backside contamination sensitivity in hybrid bonding, chiplet integration)
• Quantify and articulate customer value propositions
• Align the portfolio with broader Onto offerings (inspection + metrology + analytics) to create integrated solutions
• Drive product positioning against competitors and alternative approaches (process changes vs inspection)
• Partner with Engineering to influence roadmap priorities (throughput, sensitivity, automation, AI/analytics integration)

Qualifications

- BS Degree or higher in related field, MBA highly desirable
- Experience (12 years) in presenting to and working closely with semiconductor customers to  

   understand on-wafer challenges around unpatterned / patterned inspection and communicating those

   challenges effectively a broader team

- Hands-on experience in semiconductor wafer processing fab environment highly desirable

- Hands-on experience in the specialty (Power, MEMS, RF, Analog, Photonics, CIS) is highly desirable

- Comfortable presenting at conferences, writing blogs, writing technical articles, etc.
- Advanced speaking and report-writing skills for effective communication are a MUST for this role

- Must be able to travel at least 30% internationally to customer sites and engagements

Compensation & Growth

• Base Salary Range:

$155,200.00 - $232,800.00, offered in good faith and based on experience, location, and qualifications.

• Additional Rewards: Annual bonus opportunities and potential long-term incentives tied to both company and individual success.
