The Director of Pulmonary Services is responsible for providing administrative direction for new and expanding diagnostic and interventional operations for pulmonary and sleep services. The D-PS provides guidance and direction for the assistant director in carrying out their responsibilities to ensure an even flow of work assignments.
Qualifications:
Education:
Associate’s Degree (AS) in Respiratory Therapy required.
Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Respiratory Therapy preferred.
Experience:
A minimum of five (5) years’ acute hospital care experience required.
A minimum of two (2) years’ respiratory care supervisory experience required.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Current License as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of South Carolina required.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Association for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for development, interpretation, dissemination and practice of departmental policies, procedures, regulations and information and all performance improvement planning.
Ensures departmental policies and procedures are maintained and followed.
Ensures departments are in constant compliance with DNV, State and Federal regulatory agencies.
Establishes, identifies, and ensures systems are in place and standards that promote patient safety and safe practices for delivering patient care.
Directs, assists, and resolves problems encountered in the development of objectives, physical facility, equipment and supply needs, personnel, organizational structure, work distribution and operational processes. Responsible for preparation of the annual budget, after evaluating trends and consulting with division assistant directors, pulmonologists, and the medical staff; and for overall department material needs, mechanical contractors, personnel, merit evaluations, new or modified equipment, and revenue increases as recommended to the administrative staff.
Develops cost-effective programs to ensure budget is met.
Coordinates departmental purchases and is responsible for stock level, storage and utilization.
Takes remedial action to resolve or improve deficient operational conditions or problems, changes in work patterns, provides assistance in the recruitment of personnel and the selection and appointment; reviews and recommends merit increases, promotions, demotions, hiring, terminations, and reprimand practices.
Conducts frequent inspection and observation of the Pulmonary and Sleep Services facilities and operations to determine the effectiveness of operations and to ensure compliance with rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
Work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, physicians, department heads, and members of executive leadership.
Proficient use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, Project, Visio, Explorer, and PowerPoint.
Consistently display exemplary core customer service skills.
Display strong organizational skills.
Regularly utilize strong verbal and written communication skills.
Exercise independent judgement in emergency situations.
Complete other duties as assigned.
