Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities: 

  • Works with the Chief Quality Officer, Medical Director of Quality, and Quality Management Review Committee to establish quality improvement goals and metrics aligned with the organization’s strategic plans
  • Specializes in system-wide regulatory and accreditation program oversight
  • Creates an environment conducive to process improvement and change management.
  • Directs infection prevention and quality measures nurses to achieve regulatory & accreditation objectives as well as reporting requirements.
  • Supplies supervision, training, and education on policies and procedures, quality improvement, clinical education, and regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Utilizes appropriate outside evidence-based resources (such as CDC, AHRQ, Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, APIC, NAHQ, American Nurses Association, etc.) to achieve quality management objectives
  • Reports quality trends as required, recommends process improvements, and collaborates with GRH team members to implement practices that meet clinical quality goals.
  • Oversees the Clinical Educator and clinical educational programs, and may also facilitate oversight of programs to address education/competency needs of non-clinical departments.
  • Collaborates with CQO on fiscal management of the Quality/Risk department, managing the Quality Budget with CQO supervision, through comprehensive budget planning and regular monitoring of financial performance/productivity.
  • Manages the patient experience program, overseeing assessment, planning, and evaluation activities, including collaborating with department managers to improve patient experience scores
  • Assists with medical staff quality related activities, including peer reviews, quality profile forms, and provider onboarding for quality.
  • Member of GRH Administration Team and other administrative committees as assigned
  • Maintains patient experience concerns in collaboration with Administrative team members to ensure patient concerns are addressed.
  • Collaborates with GRH administrative teams, staff, providers, and external partners on risk management, prevention, and resolution activities.
  • Directs the facilitation of quality improvement teams
  • Conducts employee evaluations and takes disciplinary measures when necessary

Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • RN license
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing; MSN preferred
  • At least 3-5 years of health care experience; management experience preferred
  • Demonstrated teaching/instructional ability
  • CPHQ certification is preferred; certification required at the end of 4 years employment as the Director of Quality
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Patient experience knowledge & skills
  • Ability to handle & organize multiple tasks while working at a fast pace
  • Maintain courteous and respectful manner with all GRH staff, contractors, visitors, and patients always

    Supervision (Received and Given):

    • Direct supervision received from the Chief Quality Officer
    • In day-to-day activities, guidance is provided by GRH Administrative and Departmental policies and procedures, as well as GRH Medical Staff By-Laws.
    • Supervises and directs the work of GRH clinical educator, quality measures & risk management nurse, and infection prevention nurse
