DRIS - DIRECTOR OF REGIONAL INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES - 215 days/year

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The Director is responsible for assisting with planning, implementing, and monitoring the work of the Regional Instructional Services team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate high-quality instructional service delivery in conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent of Regional Instructional Services. Includes, but not limited to: working closely with districts and community partners in determining service objectives and timelines, assigning appropriate staff for consultation and/or coaching, following through to ensure satisfactory implementation and sustainability.
  • Communications: key communicator to districts and community partners on services/needs - not only assessing and meeting districts' current needs, but also looking to future needs.
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with CISD staff, district personnel in Barry, Branch, and Calhoun Counties, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the CISD organization to foster an integrated approach to the implementation of both the MI MTSS framework and the Whole School, Whole Community, and Whole Child framework.
  • Possess a deep understanding of the academic and non-academic factors that impact student achievement, including social, emotional, behavioral health, mental health, and physical health.
  • Provide coaching and supervision of Regional Instructional Services staff in alignment with our vision and mission, and to provide the most effective programs and services to our constituents.
  • Keep abreast of research-based practices and innovations.
  • Facilitate professional learning and coordination of various leader and teacher networks.
  • Manage budgets, state/federal grant reporting, and evaluation of programs accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Actively contribute to and provide leadership for local, regional, and statewide professional organizations as appropriate.
  • Maintain regular consistent attendance and punctuality.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES"

Supervises staff in conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent of Regional Instructional Services. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, making hiring recommendations, and mentoring/training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership with K-12 Administrative certification
  • Minimum of five years of experience in education
  • Problem-solving and communication skills
  • Project management
  • Experience managing and setting budgets

Preferred:

  • Experience managing and directing staff
  • Experience with overseeing federal/state grant budgets, reporting and program evaluation
  • Experience with leadership of regional and/or statewide initiatives

PERSONAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must possess excellent human relations skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Must have the ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with staff and the

B. Complaint/Grievance Procedure Notice

I. Any person believing that the Calhoun Intermediate School District or any of the District's staff has inadequately applied the principles and/or regulations of non-discrimination laws or district non-discrimination policies may bring forward a complaint, which shall be referred to as a grievance to the district's Civil Rights Coordinator.

II. The person who believes s/he has a valid basis for grievance shall discuss the grievance informally and on a verbal basis with the District's Civil Rights Coordinator, who shall in turn investigate the complaint and reply with verbal answer to the complainant. S/He may initiate formal procedures according to the following steps:

Step 1

A written statement of the grievance signed by the complainant shall be submitted to the District's Civil Rights Coordinator within five (5) business days of receipt of answers to the informal complaint. The Coordinator shall further investigate the matters of grievance and reply in writing to the complainant within five (5) business days.

Step 2

If the complainant wishes to appeal the decision of the District's Civil Rights Coordinator, s/he may submit a signed statement of appeal to the Superintendent of Schools within five (5) business days after receipt of the Coordinator's response. The Superintendent shall meet with all parties involved, formulate a conclusion and respond in writing to the complainant within ten (10) business days.

Step 3

If the complainant remains unsatisfied, s/he may appeal through a signed written statement to the Board of Education within five (5) business days of his/her receipt of the Superintendent's response in step two. In an attempt to resolve the grievance, the Board of Education shall meet with the concerned parties and their representative within twenty (20) business days of the receipt of such an appeal. A copy of the Board's disposition of the appeal shall be sent to each concerned party within ten (10) business days of this meeting.

The District's Coordinator, on request, will provide a copy of the District's grievance procedure and investigate all complaints in accordance with this procedure.
