The Director of Residence Life and Student Organizations provides visionary leadership for the University's residential experience and co-curricular student engagement. This position cultivates a Christ-centered residential community that promotes belonging, discipleship, leadership development, and student success. The Director is responsible for the administration of residence life operations, supervision of residence life staff, development of student organizations, and establishment of a dynamic Student Government Association (SGA) that serves as the voice of the student body.
Through intentional programming and leadership development, the Director creates opportunities for students to build meaningful relationships, grow as servant leaders, and contribute to a vibrant campus community consistent with Point University's mission of educating students for Christ-centered service and leadership.
Essential Responsibilities
Residence Life Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership for all aspects of the University's residence life program.
- Develop a residential philosophy that promotes Christian community, discipleship, accountability, and student development.
- Supervise professional residence life staff, resident directors, graduate assistants, and student Resident Assistants (RAs).
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Residence Life personnel.
- Oversee residence hall occupancy, room assignments, housing selection, and roommate mediation.
- Coordinate residence hall opening, closing, and break housing operations.
- Partner with Facilities Management to ensure residence halls remain safe, welcoming, and well-maintained.
- Develop policies and procedures that promote healthy residential living.
- Manage the Residence Life budget and campus housing resources.
- Respond to student emergencies and participate in an on-call rotation.
Student Organizations
- Design and implement Point University's student organization system.
- Develop policies, procedures, and expectations for the recognition and operation of student organizations.
- Establish standards for leadership, financial accountability, event planning, and organizational effectiveness.
- Recruit and advise faculty and staff organization advisors.
- Provide leadership development and training for student organization officers.
- Support the creation of academic, professional, service, ministry, multicultural, recreational, and special-interest organizations.
- Coordinate annual student organization registration, officer transitions, and leadership training.
- Maintain an accurate roster of recognized student organizations and their leadership teams.
- Encourage collaboration among organizations to strengthen campus community.
Student Government Association (SGA)
- Establish, oversee, and advise the University's Student Government Association.
- Recruit and mentor student leaders who demonstrate Christian character and servant leadership.
- Coordinate annual SGA elections and leadership transitions.
- Guide the development of SGA governing documents, constitution, bylaws, and operating procedures.
- Advise student leaders in representing student concerns and communicating with University administration.
- Equip SGA members to lead campus initiatives, service projects, and institutional committees.
- Foster leadership development through retreats, training, and mentoring.
Student Leadership Development
- Create intentional leadership development opportunities for residential students and student organization leaders.
- Coordinate leadership retreats, officer training, and workshops throughout the academic year.
- Develop emerging leaders through mentoring, coaching, and discipleship.
- Encourage students to integrate faith, leadership, service, and academic excellence.
Community Development and Programming
- Oversee residence hall programming that promotes spiritual growth, community engagement, wellness, diversity, and personal development.
- Collaborate with Campus Ministry, Student Engagement, Athletics, Admissions, and Academic Affairs to provide meaningful campus experiences.
- Encourage student involvement in campus traditions and community-building initiatives.
- Assess student engagement and recommend improvements to residential and campus programming.
Collaboration and Student Care
- Partner with the Director of Redemptive Discipline and Mentorship regarding student conduct matters occurring within residence halls.
- Collaborate with the Director of Campus Ministry and Student Engagement to integrate discipleship opportunities into residential life.
- Serve on the University's Behavioral Intervention Team or Student Care Team.
- Assist in crisis response, student retention initiatives, and emergency preparedness.
- Maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, parents, and students.
- A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and commitment to the mission, vision, and Statement of Faith of Point University.
- Experience supervising professional and student staff.
- Strong organizational, leadership, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Preferred
- Five or more years of leadership experience in Christian higher education.
- Experience launching or revitalizing student organizations.
- Experience advising Student Government Associations.
- Experience managing residence hall operations and occupancy.
- Knowledge of student development theory and Christian leadership development.
