Description

Hotel: Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue

Position: Director of Sales

The Opportunity

You will lead commercial strategy for a 246-key, 31-story lifestyle hotel sitting on the best block in downtown Austin — Congress Avenue at 8th, two minutes from Sixth Street, steps from the Paramount and State Theatres, and a short walk from the Austin Convention Center and the Texas State Capitol. You have a distinctive product, a rooftop that TimeOut named Best New Bar in Austin, and a market that rewards sellers who know how to work it.

About the Hotel

Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue Austin is a 31-story lifestyle hotel that celebrates the city's identity as the Live Music Capital of the World, from guitar amp nightstands to vintage Paramount and State Theatre posters. The hotel offers 246 guestrooms, including 5 suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows and downtown, Capitol, and UT campus views.

This is a boutique-scale event product with an outsized venue story — seven distinct spaces, weighted toward experience rather than ballroom:

  • A dedicated meetings floor with floor-to-ceiling windows and built-in AV, purpose-built for board meetings, executive sessions, and small-group programs
  • The 8th floor: an indoor/outdoor rooftop with sweeping Austin views, home to Heydey Social Club. Your largest and most distinctive space, and a genuine buyout and reception draw
  • The Artist Residence: a penthouse venue on the 31st floor with a built-in bar, decorative fireplace, and outdoor balcony over the skyline
  • The Green Room: the most flexible single room in the building, equally at home as a meeting, reception, or private dining space
  • The Tradition, An American Kitchen:  three-meal ground floor restaurant with an open kitchen concept, plus a second-floor bar and lounge

Do What You Are Passionate About

  • Own sales and catering revenue strategy and build the quarterly sales plan that delivers it. On 246 keys with intimate event space, the engine is negotiated and business transient volume, supported by executive meetings, social, and venue-driven catering.
  • Build and defend the negotiated account base. Downtown Austin corporate, legal, state government and state-adjacent, university, healthcare, tech, and consulting demand are your core. Own the RFP season and win your share of local negotiated agreements.
  • Sell the non-traditional, because it is the differentiator. The 8th floor rooftop, the 31st floor Artist Residence penthouse, and full-venue buyouts are experiences no comp set hotel downtown can match. Package them, price them, and put them in front of the right buyers.
  • Position the hotel for entertainment, film, music, and production business — a real and underserved Austin segment, and a natural fit for a lifestyle product next to the Paramount and State Theatres.
  • Build the calendar around Austin's demand peaks — SXSW, ACL, F1, UT, legislative session, and the downtown event calendar — and price the compression periods aggressively.
  • Aggressively grow share against a demanding downtown comp set. Know your STR position, know why you are winning or losing, and have a plan for both.
  • Build and convert a live prospecting pipeline. Sales calls, site inspections, client entertainment, and local visibility through chambers, Visit Austin, and industry organizations are the job — not an add-on to it.
  • Grow and maintain relationships with key clients to produce topline business across rooms, food and beverage, and catering and banquet revenues.
  • Partner with Regional Sales, Revenue Management, and Operations on forecasting, budgeting, and expense management. Own your numbers in every forecast call.
  • Lead and partner with operational departments — Front Office, F&B, Events — so that what you sell is what the guest experiences.
  • Champion the Hyatt Centric brand and Peachtree's reputation in the Austin market. Cultivate relationships with local community groups, companies, and venues, and represent the hotel at events that generate business.

Lead The Team

  • Direct, coach, and develop the on-property sales and events team, setting clear activity and production expectations and holding to them.
  • Run a disciplined weekly sales meeting and a credible pace and booking review.
  • Recruit, onboard, and retain sales talent, and build bench strength for the property and the region.
  • Partner with the General Manager as a peer on the executive committee, contributing to total hotel performance — not just topline.

Experience

  • Experience with direct client relationships and consultative, relationship-driven selling.
  • Accustomed to meeting and exceeding sales and revenue goals in a competitive urban market.
  • A creative, innovative, outside-the-box sales mindset — this product will not sell on rate and location alone.
  • Comfort building structure, process, and account base rather than inheriting one fully formed.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of progressive hotel sales experience, including leading a sales team or in a Director of Sales role.
  • Full-service, lifestyle, boutique, or upper-upscale hotel sales experience strongly preferred; catering and banquet revenue ownership preferred.
  • Proven production in negotiated and business transient selling, including ownership of local negotiated RFP season.
  • Downtown Austin or comparable urban market experience strongly preferred.
  • Hyatt brand experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated command of STR reporting, booking pace, market segmentation, and rate strategy.
  • Displays a magnitude of professionalism.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality, or a related field preferred.

Systems Proficiency:

  • Hyatt Envision
  • Delphi/Amaze
  • ProfitSword
  • Hyatt brand and revenue systems
  • Standard hotel CRM and reporting platforms
